Self Portraits
(Return to Home Page)
Using a tripod and a self timer, I can photos of myself when I don't have anyone else to pose for pictures.
This photograph was taken in September 2001 with a Nikon N80 and a 28-105mm AF zoom lens.  It was taken at noon over my lunch hour, but in a heavily shaded area to keep the shadows from being harsh.  Bright, direct sunlight tends to make harsh shadows as well as causing people to squint.  A good tip for beginning photographers is this:  When taking people portraits, in general, you'll get better results in shade or on overcast days.  Note the detail in the leaves and tree trunks on the enlargement.
