Hello and welcome to the first of my doctor who pages containing the facts on the doctors (the characters not the actors)Anyone who thought of Peter Cushing can leave right now, this website is only for people who know more than that about the doctor. It contains mainly unknown information about the doctor that only true doctor who fans would know so compare your knowledge to the information on my website (I will set up a proper quiz once I get some spare time) The first doctor (the original you might say) was well played by William Hartnell for most of the series and by Richard Hurndall (I think that's how it's spelled)in The Celestial Toymaker(the Doctor's hands and voice while he is invisible) and The Five Doctors(for the whole story). The first doctor is probably the crankiest of them except maybe the Sixth doctor and he is also the only doctor to smoke a pipe and keep a diary (non-chronologically of course). Both William and Richard did quite a good job at his cranky nature but in my personal opinion William was the better of the two. Despite this the first doctor was quite good at being the brunt of a joke. Aside from being the most irritable the first doctor was also the most wise. Actually all of the doctors were wise but his shone through the most because all of the other doctors had a childish/playful nature which covered up their wisdom. The first Doctor's original name was actually Doctor Foreman but when Ian addressed him as Doctor Foreman in An Unearthly child he said "Doctor Who? What are you taking about?" and later in the same episode Barbara mentions Doctor Foreman to Ian he says "Doctor Who?" and that is how he came to be known as Doctor Who. Even though he is the most irritable of the Doctor's he cares about his companions just as much as the other doctors but he does not care for being called "Doc". His companions were Susan, Susan's school teachers Ian and Barbara and later on after Susan left the crew Vicki. This Doctor died of old age then regenerated into the second doctor who was far to youthful to worry about old age. This Doctor's excuse for being unable to pilot the TARDIS was that since it was only a Mark Forty it didn't have any way to input co-ordinates into the navigation system.
