This is the last section on a specific doctor. I may mention specific doctor in the "Miscellaneous" section but this is the last specific doctor's section. The eighth doctor didn't star in the actual series but he was in the movie so I feel I should mention him. He has also had roles in many Doctor Who books but again any non-reader would not know this. The eighth Doctor's companions (in the movie) were Grace and Chang-Lee. I must admit the movie was very different to the series (such as the motor bike chase scene) but I quite like the changes although I do prefer the "classic doctor". One thing this doctor had in common with all the others was his sleight of hand tricks (like when he stole the policemans gun and Gareth asked what he had in his hand so he changed the micro chip for a jelly baby). A new piece of information that even the most fanatic doctor who fans would not have known that before hand that was revealed in the movie is that the doctor is half human. That would certainly explain why regeneration was always so hard for him and he always got "regeneration sickness" although I would say that the worst would be when he became the fifth doctor and he had to go to "Castrovalva"(or whatever it was called". The eighth doctor was the most youthful of all the doctor's, a fact which even The Master agreed with in the following scene with Chang-Lee where he reveals the Doctor's hidden secret.
"The Doctor's past life"
"Doctor?"
"That's what he calls himself...Doctor"
"The new Doctor...He's so young"
"See that, that's the retinal structure of the human eye... The Doctor is half-human,no wonder".
One thing that was a definite improvement in the movie was the special effects. I like the way the series normally had really bad SFX but it was nice for them to look believable in the movie like when he's explaining to Grace about the "Eye of Harmony" and he walks through the window. Speaking of "The Eye" that was another change because in the series it was on Gallifrey but in the movie it was the power source for the TARDIS. They still had one or two "classic SFX" moments though like the regeneration-Jake from The Tv show Becker could see that Sylvester Mcoy was just making faces although the lightning was pretty cool as well as the "Frankenstein's monster" joke. This doctor didn't have any excuse for being unable to pilot the TARDIS in the movie or the books. This Doctor was the last so far so I cannot say how he regenerated.
