IAN CHESTERTON
Ian was one of the doctors first companions. In fact he was the first except for maybe Barbara and Susan. This young english teacher was quite energetic, always willing to lend a hand, had a great deal of strength and shared the doctors opinions on violence. He was quite helpful to the team often when strength was needed but wasn't really much of a help when it came to matters that needed a great deal of thought. One of Ian's shortcomings was the fact that his energy often made him impatient but he would wait forever for a friend. One thing that could make him lose his cool nature and get angry was seeing a friend in danger and whenever his friends were in danger he would always fight ficiously and valiantly to help them no matter how badly the odds were against him. He wasn't really good at showing emotions to the rest of the crew except by saving their lives once in a while. Ian and the doctor both had a great deal of respect for each other and very rarely disagreed but when they did Ian normally gave in to the doctor. Well the first doctor would not be very easy to defy would he? He was just too stubborn but if someone proved him wrong he would accept it and he was stubborn but not a sore loser. Ian and the doctor probably respected each other so much because they were so similar-in my eyes anyway-especially with their opinions on violence although Ian would be more willing to be violent if necessary then the doctor would.
This violent little reporter was never willing to except the role of a damsel in distress and often seemed to be quite hot-headed but she was just as respectful of the doctor as his other companions. One time when her hot-headedness really showed up was in the five doctors when number three had to rescue her and she demanded to know why she needed to be rescued. The best was to describe Sarah would be a female Ian Chesterton-considering how tough they both were. I don't think she ever understood the doctor in all the time she knew him but then not many of his companions did not even Romana (hey there was no way I was going to write her full name again and probably misspell it again). Sarah Jane first met the doctor through UNIT (I think but don't quote me on that) when he was in his third incarnation but she only knew him for a short time before he regenerated and "became all teeth and curls" like she said in the five doctors when she broke one of the Laws Of Time-no-one is allowed to contact a Time Lord out of sequence or maybe that is just Time Lords that aren't allowed to contact Time Lords out of sequence but either way she did it. She saw the third doctor in the five doctor's after she had met the fourth doctor which means she contacted them out of sequence. Wow yet another mistake in the five doctors story line. First one in the second doctor's storyline then another in the third doctor's storyline. That's all I have to say about Sarah (although some of it actually wasn't about her)
One piece of information that only true Dr Who Fans know about this little robot dog is that there are actually several versions of him(three I think). There was the one that was sent to Sarah Jane in "K-9 and Company", there was the one that stayed with Romana in E-Space and I think there was another one in there somewhere but I don't know what happened to it.The always well-behaved K-9 was the most offensive weapon the doctor ever used. His nose-laser/cannon came in very helpful against some of the creatures they met up against in their travels. One down side to K-9's personality was that he was always taking everything so literally. He was also quite opinionated as the doctor said in one book when he was thinking about how powerful K-9 and Romana would be together in E-Space. He was quite handy to have around sometimes especially when some brainwork was required. Another good thing about having K-9 around was that he could sense things that others couldn't like a normal dog. One example of this is in "The Five Doctor's" right at the start when he sensed the danger that "attacked" Sarah-Jane not five minutes later (her time not ours).
This charming youth was one of the few doctor's companions that actually died. Originating from the planet of Alzaria from E-Space Adric didn't know much about our universe but he was a fast learner and he did have the doctor teaching him. One thing he did understand well is maths. I hope you did know about his Alzarian badge for mathematical excellence.Adric met the fourth doctor in E-Space not long before he regenerated into the fifth doctor. One of Adric's characteristics was his curiousity about everything (well if you was taken out of your home universe wouldn't you be curious-after you got over your fear). One thing about Adric that I think annoyed the doctor was how quickly he caught on when the doctor tried to pull the wool over his eyes by pretending to know what he was talking about. Adric's death was caused when the Cybermen sent a spacecraft hurtling into the planet and Adric stayed on board to try to stop it. Needless to say he failed and KA-BOOM-Adric has left the galaxy.
In the movie Chang-lee wasn't actually a companion of the doctors except for right near the start and the end. Chang-lee was also very unique in the fact that he was the first and only companion of the masters, well the only willing one anyway.Chang-lee was the first person to see the doctor after he walked out of the TARDIS. Chang-lee was a San Fransisco gang member that was about to get shot when the TARDIS materialized and the doctor walked out and got shot by the rival gang. Don't you think that it's a bit ironic that the doctor can handle the most intelligent, powerful and evil creatures in the universe without getting a scratch and then he get's killed by a gang of "Tough-guy" teenage, thug jerks that think they're better than everyone else. I guess the doctor's luck isn't as amazing as I said it was a minute ago. Chang-lee was probably one of the gang members who just caused trouble to fit in not because he wanted to. The reason I think this is because he was quite polite all the way through the movie to everyone. He quite reminds me of Turlough in that sense. Another thing about Chang-lee not being a real trouble maker is the fact that he had to much of a good sense of humour to be really tough. Like when the doctor offers to drop him and grace off on December Twenty-fourth.
"December twenty-fourth-do you want to get off here?"
"I don't think I could live through that again" (Grace)
"Uh...I definitely wouldn't live through that again" (Chang-lee).
Another good Chang-lee moment was when the doctor gave him the gold.
"Here's your things"
"Oh...my sonic screwdriver"
"Uh and this too"
"Keep it"
"Really?"
"Yes really"
"I better get going before you change your mind"
"Oh and Lee next christmas take a vacation, just don't be here"
"Right,thanks See you around Grace"
Lees politeness(Thanks and See you around Grace) and his humor(I better go before you change your mind) both showed up in that scene and he just didn't really seem like a troublemaking thug for most of the movie but most thug's/bullies tend to act tougher when they're around their friends most of them act nice enough if you manage to catch them on their on (most but not all)
