A front view of my '66 DartThis is my 1966 Dodge Dart. It's a nice, reliable street car that turns heads everywhere I go. It's far from completely restored, but it was never intended to be a museum piece. This car was built to be driven, and up until recently was used as a daily driver. It's still drivable, but I've started to get the urge to install mods that require a bit too much downtime.

It's powered by a 225 cubic inch slant six, which has over 90,000 miles on the odometer and is still running strong. Putting power to the road is accomplished by a freshly rebuilt TorqueFlite 904 transmission and (what I presume is) a 2.93:1 rear axle. Not exactly a combination for speed, but it's pretty good for relaxed cruising and even gets decent gas mileage for a car of its age and size.

Few old cars remain truly original. This car is no exception. The radiator was damaged when I got it, so my father and I installed one from an Aspen station wagon (For details on how to do this swap, click here). The alternator has been upgraded to heavy-duty specifications, so I can listen to my Kenwood stereo And how my Dart looks from the back without worrying about my battery. The stock Holley 1920 was replaced by a Carter BBD "Super Six" setup, which gives a noticable improvement in power, and even slightly better mileage. When the original single reservoir master cylinder sprung a leak, I replaced it with a dual reservoir system. And finally, the original breaker points have been ditched in favor of a Pertronix Ignitor electronic ignition for improved reliability. The interior has been completely reupholstered, too, and I've added shoulder belts. I've got more changes coming - check out my Future Plans page for futher information, as well as a list of parts I could use.

Recently, I've started to work on the suspension. The first mod there has been an Addco front swaybar, which gives a tremendous improvement to handling. There's a lot more suspension work on the way. I've put more pictures of my Dart up in a photo gallery.

All in all, my Dart is an interesting, reliable, and surprisingly practical car.
