This is Bandit. He was such a gorgeous dog. He crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on June 25, 1997. He died of old age, even though he was only 13 years old. I had Bandit his whole life. I had his mother, Woofer, who was a Norweign Elkhound. His father was the neighbors dog, a Collie/Shepard mix. Bandit was my pride and joy. He was probably one of the best dogs I ever had. He was very passive and shy, but protective as well. He had a good life and I miss him terribly.

This is the other side of Bandit. His hair was about 6" long, but very thick, like wool. There wasn't much dog under all that hair. You could tell Bandit to sit, and he would, but he would turn his head away from you and stick his nose in the air. And out of the corner of his eye, he was watching you.

This is Bandit's mother, Woofer. She was a Norwegian Elkhound. Woofer showed up in the spring of 1983 when she was about 9 months. A little boy in the neighborhood said it was his dog, so I let him have her. That same day she came back, but no one ever came to get her. We didn't know where the little boy lived, so we kept her. She must have liked it better with us. She got her name because she howled, never barked. If you howled at Woofer, she would howl back. Don't know what we were saying to each other, but makes you wonder if she understood. Woofer also liked pears from our trees. If you went out to pick some up, she would steal them out of your bag. She would sit and protect her pile of pears, by barking if you came to close. Woofer went to Rainbow Bridge on June 6, 1992. We believe she had a heatstroke. I still miss her howling.

This is Bandit's sister, Wooley. I think her name is self explanatory. When she was a puppy, she looked just like a black bear. Wooley's fur was so thick you couldn't get a comb or brush through it. She was alot bigger than Bandit. She was a sweet dog when she wanted, but could get mean with some of the other dogs. I think she was just jealous, she wanted all of the attention. Wooley was hit by a car and went to Rainbow Bridge on December 16, 1993. Wooley and Bandit kept digging out of the fence at night, no matter what I did to fix it. I guess someone couldn't see Wooley because she was so black. Strange, but after she was gone, Bandit never got out of the fence again.
