I first took a swim class during Junior year and then joined the swim team during Senior year. In the summer after I graduated, I joined the summer swim team. After have taken two years of swim classes in college I decided I loved to swim so much that I got certified to Lifeguard in 1997. During that summer, I lifeguarded and taught swim lessons at deFremery Pool where I gained mainly teaching experiences. After my summer job was over, I lifeguarded and taught swim lessons at YMCA. Unfortunately, after six months I decided to quit because the chlorine in the atmosphere was affecting my asthma. During that summer, I went back to lifeguarding and taught lessons at an outdoor pool. But because of health problems again, that was the last time I guarded or taught lessons.

During my Junior year in high school I was on the junior varsity volleyball team and improved my skills and knowledge of competition volleyball. Senior year I was on the varsity volleyball team and developed some skills to set. Throughout the two years on the volleyball team I learned to be more vocal (cheering for our team and calling for the ball was probably what helped the most). Although I like volleyball in general, I prefer indoor volleyball where I can make use of my knee pads and dive for the ball...heh

I started off shooting pool as a little girl when my sister would bring me on my bithdays. But I didn't start to really enjoy it until 1997 when I went to shoot with a good friend very often. I played it every now and then throughout the entire year and developed a little bit more skill and enjoyed it even more. Right now I'm trying to learn to play better and I still need to learn how to make bank shots. (hmm...for some reason I like to shoot solid balls versus striped...why is that?)

Lion Dancing has played an important role in my life ever since I started in the Lion Dance Club in high school. It was special to me because I was one of the first generation of the new club and was also one of the first females to lion dance. After graduation, I joined the Oakland Police Asian Youth Lion Dance Group where I met many friends and gained one or two good friends. My parter-in-crime, Cindy and I have participated in lion dance competitions in 1997, 1998, and 1999 where we had unforgettable experiences. I have also learned Wu Shu martial arts: a broad sword set, a fist set, and currently learning the nin-section chain. My goal is to be able to continue to lion dance for years to come.
