welcome on Dope Danny's site

I know that there's only a few people more interested in HIM's guitar player than in their singer (me for instance), but that also means there's only a very small amount of information about him on the web, and what you can find is usually almost the same on every site...
I guess we have to accept that, Linde is not a guy who seems to like attention from the press for instance, that's why there's so little known about this guitar hero
Ville even said this: "Our guitar player is a mute." BUT don't believe everything he says!

I started this site out of respect for this talented musician and because I noticed that there's not enough sites about him yet

just one more thing, and then you get everything you want on this site: if you've got a pick from Linde, let me know, I'd love to play guitar with such a nice heartagram-pick!!!

    Who is this guy?

NAME(S): his real name is Mikko Viljami Lindström
but he's mostly called Linde, or: Lily Lazer (you know what the lily is a symbol for; together with 'celibacy' and 'meditation' you might get a certain image of him...), Daniel Lioneye, Danny, Lindsey, Lizzy, Barbie,... (can I do a suggestion as well? 'Lindo' would be nice, check out what that means in Spanish *ggg*)

POSITION IN HIM: guitar player; in the sideproject 'Daniel Lioneye' he sings and plays the guitar - actually the guitars are more important than his voice - , Ville plays the drums and Migé is still on bass (have you got an idea why there's in the booklet from Razorblade Romance "lead guitar on 'Razorblade kiss' by Daniel Lioneye"?)

DAY OF BIRTH: the 12th of August 1976 (leo...)

BROTHERS/SISTERS: one younger brother, called Jude (he dedicated 'The King of Rock'n'Roll' to him)

LOOKS:
- tall (more than 1m87 I think) & thin
- tattoo: mysterious sword on right upperarm
- piercing in right side of his nose + both ears
- grey-blue eyes
- used to have long blond hairs (Barbie's haircut I read somewhere), then he had long dreadlocks and now he's got rather short dreads
- Linde used to be dressed in black all the time, but that changed; now he sometimes looks more like a hippie (you don't hear me complaining about his style...) instead of the pure metal guy you used to see on stage in the past; would that be Migé's influence?

WHAT HE LIKES TO DO IN HIS FREE TIME: sleeping & watching films when he's not with the band, his favourire one is 'From dusk till dawn' (never say you don't believe in vampires, hehe)

FAVOURITE FOOD: Italian

FAVOURITE DRINK: beer (although he seems to like Jack Daniel's as well, and wouldn't there be a link with the name 'Daniel Lioneye'?)

FAVOURITE COLOUR: green

HATES: the little passport on the Heartagram site says he doesn't like strangers (hope he's not too serious about that)

IDOLS:
- Iggy Pop (he often appears in T-shirts from Iggy Pop, he sings pretty much like Iggy and the others in HIM seem to like Iggy as well, cfr. the No Sh*t intro for their concerts and the "In Iggy we trust" in the CD box - seems to be a present from Ville to Linde)

actually Linde is completely crazy about Iggy! click here to read more about it

- John Lee Hooker (well, listen to "Eldorado baby" on 'The King of Rock'n'Roll', haha)
- Steve Vai (cfr. the article about the guitar test; to be honest: he's done some good musical experiments)
- Nebula (Linde used to wear T-shirts from that band + a sticker on one of his SGs and I think their sound - they play heavy stoner rock - might be a bit similar to the sound on the Daniel Lioneye record)
- Neil Young (I don't remember where I found that... Ville calls 'Deep shadows...' their Neil Young record and if you don't know him, you know nothing about good music I think)
- AND, last but not least: ELVIS!!! (cfr. 'The King of Rock'n'Roll': title, voice, flag on the back of the CD box, on his jacket, on stage,... btw, in Brussels Ville was wearing an Elvis-shirt!!! I guess it's all about the rock'n'roll clichés)

ARE THERE GUITAR PLAYERS THAT ARE INFLUENCED BY HIS WAY OF PLAYING? no, I'm not talking about myself here *ggg*, but I read somewhere that J.P. Sutela and Joonas Koto from To/Die/For sounded a bit like Linde on the album All eternity. check it out yourself and judge if it's true or not.

here and here you find that critic

FAVOURITE SONG: Borellus (a demo from HIM, one of the first: from 1995, in which he plays a quite impressionating solo)

VILLE ABOUT LINDE: "he's the most silent person I've ever met", "he's very reliable, even in the studio he can guess what I'm thinking about", "Linde sometimes wears a mask because the police are looking for him since he drove too fast in his car, haha" (you know what I said: don't believe everything Ville says!)

ank

SPECIAL INTERESTS: meditation & celibacy (well, I hope he doesn't suppose we believe that!!!); I think he adores SILENCE (he hardly ever talks, and it is said that most of the time he uses his voice to ask where the toilets are...), somewhere I read he likes decent people (especially girls should be decent to attract his attention) and he seems to be interested in ancient Egypt: his favorite city is Luxor and look at the little sign that he wears around his neck (well, me too actually, I've also got good reasons for wearing it... I 'suffer' from the same passion), it's the Egyptian symbol of eternal life!!! and who would be Ramses 200, mentioned in the booklet from Deep Shadows And Brilliant Highlights??? *hehe*

Luxor

this is a short report of what Linde says in the interview that's on the official German HIM site (www.him-music.de on the part of the site dedicated to Daniel Lioneye):

- 'Daniel Lioneye' should not be taken toooooooo seriously, first they didn't want to release the CD + they worked only 5 days on the entire album, including mixing and mastering

- DL and the Rollers only did a few gigs in Finland: Ilosaarirock (14-7-2001), Tuska (15-7-2001) and Ankkarock (5-8-2001)

- rock'n'roll is certainly NOT a perfect drug, but when Linde hears a good sound that can make him use drugs from time to time (so maybe he'd better not hear good music *ggg*)

- he's not afraid of anything, or at least: he tries to...

- he admires the work of David Copperfield

- his top 5 albums are all from Iggy Pop:
    1.Beat'em up
    2.Naughty little doggie
    3.American Caesar
    4.Raw power
    5.Avenue B

- he is waiting for it to change, but now he's crazy about Iggy Pop and it's not likely that it will change in the near future. he loves Iggy for the lyrics (tried to make similar lyrics for 'The King of Rock'n'Roll') and their voice is similar

- the best songs from the album, according to Linde, are International P-lover for the music and Lonely road for his voice

- when will there be a 2nd Lioneye CD? at the moment they are too busy with HIM, but maybe someday...

some info on his guitars and his equipment

Gibson SG

I found almost nothing about that, except in the article from RockHard that you can find here in the article-section (just below)

in that article he tells that he does NOT play in the lower tuning anymore, but what he used to do is: putting the 6 lowest strings from a set for a 7 string guitar on his 'normal' guitar and leaving away the high E-string

another source (somewhere on the www) told me:

- which other guitars he has got in his collection
(except the Gibson SG, Gibson SG gothic and Gibson SG doubleneck, we all knew that I suppose...):
Scretch (Chet Atkins), Dia (that's the Japanese SC copy he's talking about in the interview as well) and Levin '64 in the studio

- which effects he uses:
Crybaby (wah-wah) and OctaFuzz (fulltone fuzz)

another useful source told me that he uses two Laney 4 x 12" boxes, connected to one Laney amplifier, the other one or two amps are fake amps (cfr. the pictures) - as appears in the Deep shadows... booklet: Danny loves Laney and adores Gibson

He'd use a pedal board with an Boss-TU2-pedaltuner + another fake tuning thing.

The effects mentioned there were: Dunlop-Bass-Wah (handy system) + the OctaFuzz I already mentioned + the Laney pedal that directs 3 sounds from the amp.

Linde uses a little studio-trick to catch the sound from the setup: 2 mics (Shure Beta 56, cfr. the pictures) catch the sound from one speaker at the same time and that creates a larger sound. The guitar roadie would folow the sound over a head phone.

want more about Daniel Lioneye?

Has anyone made any decent rock'n'roll since Elvis? Guitarist Lily Lazer of HIM thinks not. From Jamppa's drawer emerged a record full of tough stuff, and a hazy alter ego Daniel Lioneye. Danny put together a diamond-hard band THE ROLLERS from the Finnish rock scene. With guarantee the flock of freaks rolling in broken glass and vomit will make more than a few obscene scenes during Finnish summertime. If you are interested in the familiar thundering guitar walls of HIM and in psychedelic psycho-rock, just hop into Danny's Caddy! Featuring members of HIM, Itä-Saksa, The Skreppers, New Rose and Ravenstorm...

THIS is the 2nd part of a report from Ankkarock 2001, there's a piece about Daniel Lioneye in it AND a little interview with Ville (the most interesting part starts at about 2.20)

heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart

once a friend of mine defended me by saying this, and I think it might be Linde's theory as well...

"It's better to be silent and let people think that you're stupid,
than to talk and prove it."

and finally, for those who think Linde IS Danny:

read the interview on Ayaa's site (www.oocities.org/dlbelgium)
- he says he hasn't been drunk for 2 months
so he didn't exactly have a "Danny feeling" when he did that interview -
and you'll find him telling things like this:

I haven't really thought about how people are going to like the album because it wasn't originally even meant to be published. It was just published as kind of a joke, the ones who like it like it... On our gigs we'll probably play a few covers with those songs. For example John Lee Hooker's One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer. (njammie, such a lovely song) Daniel Lioneye likes to be drunk and wants to sing drinking related songs. So I should probably start drinking again even though during the time I haven't been drinking I've discovered a whole new world.

and

True, I am sensitive and all drugs are dangerous, Daniel admits. There's a song called Dope Danny on The King of Rock 'n Roll that's going on an anti-drug cd. Of course drugs are not a positive thing. But I have to get drunk on a Danny gig. And that's why we only do so few gigs. If I was Danny for three weeks in a row I'd most likely burn all the bridges behind me.
