D and J Awards Integrity Policy

We may never give away another D and J County Hunting or sports award, but we assure you that our high standards will remain intact. In society, over the past few years achievement has been measured in the short term in terms of getting the achievement as soon as possible with no emphasis on the effort to achieve it. Most events like golf essentially require you to keep your own score, and in the final analysis only you know of your true measure of accomplishment. In so far as your achievement needs to be protected from the dishonesty of others, we intend to assist you in verification.

In fact, our standards remain “old fashioned”. We are concerned as to our names being shared with the participants in any endeavor and our integrity is of utmost important to us, Dave and John. Our family tradition is that “A GOOD NAME IS HARD TO COME BY.”

We will not certify any award or distinction, which is “dubious”. Notice we do not promise that any award is easy or hard, or will we affect it by our imposition of what we consider to be “integrity”. We will not serve to embarrass or disgrace anybody we consider to be dubious, but we will not certify any achievement, which is deficient in the most basic elements of actually being a party to the achievement.

How do we verify? We will now as of November 1, 2000 require signed confirmation of all contacts except for Black Sheep Awards. Please expect us to audit applications for awards in our own fashion.

In most cases people of character and content are easily known by their reputations and their actions. If we call a mobile and ask him questions about his whereabouts, please understand and be put on notice, that your veracity can be simply determined in most cases by a friendly hello, and some comments about your “run”. Anything you can do to show that you were even in the state you claim to have run, may be sufficient.

Explanations which defy even the most liberal amount of common sense may be pursued further. If you are offended about being challenged privately, we regret that and accept it as part of your sincerity and personality, but please understand that in this day and age, we have seen many choose shortcuts as a means to winning contests or awards. For your protection, we are in the enterprise of verification.

What if we choose not to believe you?? We will maintain a private list of county contacts (not mobiles) which we will not recognize. Before you submit any award, or before you announce to others that you have your final county worked for any award, please check with us beforehand. That will save you embarrassment and allow you to quietly rework it. If you would like a write-off before hand give us your submittal in advance and we will advise you. We may very well not give a detailed answer as to why, or in fact we may choose to do so.

The payoff to you is that we will not engage in character assassination but we will also verify to the highest possible extent that you have in fact Worked All Counties to an objective standard and not to a Common or politically popular standard. We intend to uphold the honor of County Hunting whether the masses do so or not.
