Bride and Prejudice is a Bollywood style rendition of "Pride and Prejudice," the novel by Jane Austen currently enjoying a resurgence of popularity. This movie is fun, interesting, beautifully done, and romantic, i.e. a "chick flick!" The film stars an Indian diva and an actor from Lost. Get the DVD and check out the extras with the Indian director, Gurinder Chadha and the cast dancing away! Very fun and enchanting--most men stayed glued for the beautiful women in "I Dream of Geni" outfits.

Army of Darkness
The 1993 horror film by Sam Raimi, starring Bruce Campell. There are two 'prequels' to this movie: Evil Dead, and Evil Dead II (See 'Stars Only"). Don't bother watching them (unless you are a horror genre buff), but do watch this one. Army of Darkness can be gory, but it is more in a Star Wars kind of way than in a Troy kind of way, i.e. fantasy creatures being killed vs real humans. The best parts are Campbell's campy attitude and allegience to the 'William Shatner School of Overacting'. H.P. Lovecraft fans will enjoy the use of the book of the Dead and its ensuing evil mysteries.

Once Upon a Time in Mexico
This is another movie with two prequels: El Mariachi, and, Desperado These two movies lead up to the story in Once Upon a Time in Mexico. Unlike the Evil Dead, the prequels made by director Robert Rodriguez are worth watching. They are not needed to enjoy and follow this movie, however. This is a movie has it all (except it is not for kids--though I bet they'd love it, if you let them watch it), intrigue, gore, and action for the guys, and a star STUDDED cast for the girls. Starring Johnny Depp, Antonio Banderas, and Enrique Inglesias, in addition to Salma Hayek, Cheech Marin, William Dafoe, and other stars. A movie you can watch several times and see new things.

Talk to Her 2002 Spanish movie by director Pedro Almodvar which centers on two men and two talented women in comas. This is not a film for people who like more action than dialogue. Actually, it is a beautiful film about ugly subjects: tragedy, obsession, death, etc. The interesting part, and have I said yet that this movie is very interesting, is that the movie is uplifting in many ways. Can't miss the giant woman and tiny man running around her body sequence. It seems really odd, until you remember that this is a spanish film, made in Spain, with subtitles, and a lot of spanish actors no one in America knows. It was definitely not made in Hollywood, and that's a good thing.
