1. Johann Peter (Assum) AUSMUS b. 1711, Schwerin, Mecklenburg, Germany,   Germany, m. (1) Abt 1732, in Of, Rockingham, Virginia,  Catherina UNKNOWN, b. ABT 1715, Germany (Probably), d. Aboard Ship Neptune, buried: At Sea, m. (2) UNKNOWN.  Johann died 1802, Rockingham County, Virginia.   Born: Schwartzenau, Mecklinburg, Germany according to LDS. 

 Johann Peter Assum and his two sons, Philip and Benjamin landed at the port of Philadelphia from Rotterdam Holland, with Captain John Mason on the ship named Neptune on October 4, 1752.  Johann wife died en route.  The family were of Tunker's (Dunkard"s) religious sect, a German Denomination.

 The foreigners whose names are underwritten, Imported in the Ship Neptune, Captain John Mason, from Rotterdam and last from Cowes in England, did this day take and subscribe the Oaths and Affirmations to the Government in the usual Form. No. 169. ....Johann Peter Assum.... 

 ******************************************************************************** Probably married in the US in 1760 and had two daughters; may have married third time and had two more daughters.

Schwerin, Germany Source: Old Speedwell Families (976.84441) Notes: Crossed with two sons, Phillip & Benjamin.  His wife died during the voyage and was buried at sea.  They eventually settled in Claiborne County, Tennessee. 

 *********************************************************************************** His wife, unidentified, died during the passage to America, in 1752. The spelling of the name Assum was changed several times: Osmos, Ousmus, Osmus, Ousden, Asmus, Ozman, until it finally became Ausmus.

      ii Benjamin AUSMUS, DR. b. 1735, Schwerin, Mecklenburg, Germany, occupation Herb Doctor,  d. 19 Jan 1807, Shenendoah County, Virginia.  Gendes Ref #5970 stated that he died in Union County, Tennessee.  An herb doctor, and "old bachelor", rumored to be George Washington's doctor when George was a young surveyor in Virginia. Benjamin emigrated on 4 October 1752 on ship Neptune.
