Brackeen/Brecheen
SECOND GENERATION
2. William BRACKEEN b. 1671, Melling (Nester) Lancashire, England,
m. 1698, in England, Hannah (UNKNOWN). William died 28 Dec 1749,
New Castle, Delaware. William BRACKEN is the first of his line in
America. Where he came from is not positively known. Tradition
says from England. Certain facts not only bear out this tradition,
but point strongly to the probabilty that he came from Yorkshire.
The first records we have refer to his purchase of land in Delaware.
Any attempt at an historical sketch must be very imperfect, for it can
be made only from the records and public documents at Wilmington, and these
are very incomplete. The records speak of William Bracken as a yeoman.
His will was drawn April 8, 1749, and probated December 28, 1749 in New
Castle County, Deleware. His children and wife ae mentioned in the
will. The information for this family and descendants came from Betsy
Mills.
One source says William arrived from England in 1699 on the
Ship Brittania from Liverpool to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. and settled
in New Castle, Delaware (Near Wilmington).
