codedog and dot1burnt, just an
example I wanted to bring to your attention. Maybe using the term
spam was a little harsh for the situation, but here is a good place
to reference. Since these users are guests for the most part, I dont
mind showing how posts by the same person can be misconstrued as
posts by one in the same. For instance, users "for dave940" and
"exdotone" are the same person, they used two different usernames
and could have been taken for two different people.
Im not
trying to really defend my point about it being spam, just to show
that it is possible.
Also, to the user I referenced above,
dave asked a very good question and all you could do is basically
criticize what he wrote, and then you made fun of one of our
moderators. Not a good way to endear yourself to us
bud. _________________ "Once the game is over, the King and

Long URLs |
|
|
I do want to compliment the
various posters on ths topic for including the sources of the
information. Unfortunately, the phpBB software does not seem to like
long URLs. Copy/paste a long URL at http://www.snipurl.com/index.php or http://tinyurl.com/, and post your links that way.
I used SnipURL to replace the long urls in this thread.
Nothing else was changed in any of your posts and I identified each
with an edit note.
Notice now how much easier to read the
post are without having to use the scrollbar.

Just curious, did the big Dot1Web
die today? I can't pull their site up, no big loss though!

Dave, there are two reasons why you shouldn't
subscribe to Webwide ISP or support Dot1web. The first is
moral and the second is logical.
Just as you would not
support a company that contributes to a cause you dislike, you
should not support a company that harms people. If you knew a
company was funnelling money to the Al Queda, you'd stop
purchasing from them, right? Now here's a company that fires
its workers a week before Christmas, without pay, and has
refused to pay them ( http://snurl.com/l8a). To boot, partners and
company's that have been ripped off by the owner of this
company for thousands of dollars have been reporting to
freedomlist for weeks - and being removed for some reason. You
should not support this mistreatment and deceitful practice.
It's not morally responsible of you.
The other half of
this reasoning is pure logic. This company is poorly run and
unstable. The CEO has numerous lawsuits against him ( http://www.codedog.org/nv/court_actions.htm
), misleads the public ( http://snurl.com/l8b ) and cannot manage his
money(http://snurl.com/l8c ). The CEO is under investigation
by the FBI ( http://snurl.com/l8d ) and suspected of
improper privacy acts ( http://www.badbusinessbureau.com/view.asp?id=2802
). Nobody has yet looked into Dot1web's licensing practices
With evidence that the man behind Webwide ISP is
immoral and a potential criminal, are you excited that this
company has your credit card number and your personal
information?
As a consumer, you should be aware of a
company's buisiness practices. If they are improper, illegal
or morally objectionable you should weigh this against the
immediate gain of saving a few bucks. There are better ISP's
out there that do not practice their businesses as
questionably as Webwide ISP.
|
This reasoning sounds nice, but how many of
us practice it? Our Christmas trees were loaded with toys,
electronics, and other gifts from a communist nation with an abysmal
human rights record (guess which?). I wanted to get my kids more
than a block of wood this year, so I'm guilty of this.
It's
a real stretch to expect this type of consumer vigilance on my part.
How many of you are willing to check the tags inside your tennis
shoes, and track down the production plants to ensure that the
employees in these compounds are treated like human beings?
I do feel sorry for the Dotweb employees who were laid off.
The previous poster's link states that apparently things might be
turning around there, and former employees may soon see some of
their benefits. But tell me what I should have known about this
company as a consumer looking for an ISP on Dec. 20. Get real. As I
alluded before, times are tough all around and I know a lot of
people (and I'm sure many Freedomlisters do also) that would be a
step or two up if they were in the position of laid off Dotweb
employees.
As for the logical reason, I suppose my use of
the Internet is too crude to notice a problem here as well. I was
supplied a fast, unlimited connection on demand. I was supplied one
more email address than I needed, which is none because I use
webmail. I was supplied more web space than I use, which is zero. I
have come to the conclusion that I don't really need the
incrementally better speed that a UU backbone provides, but if I
still were shopping for that, Webwide was a far better bargain than
any other ISP out there.
All this is irrelevant for me now,
because I cancelled by email (not in line with their terms of
service, but it appears to have been automatically processed
anyway). It states that I am cancelled as of today, but I still had
access late this afternoon (not using it now and can't check until
tomorrow). But, I no longer have a dog in this fight, so I'm outta
this thread. I hope all works out for the best, for the ex-employees
as well as whoever is left running Dotweb.
Is the Poetworld
limo long enough for a crap table inside? I wonder...

dot1web....i feel for the employees |
|
|
I am furious. I
had the best service and people who answered the phone on the first
ring and now I cannot get so much as a recording....the old number
that used to call in for new access numbers I even called and guess
what- The recording on the line sounds like a adult line now!!!!
Luckily I grabbed a wall mart CD for their service in case I ever
needed a backup. I had no clue they were going down. I asked an
employee if something was going on when I noticed the links and the
"live" support seemed abandoned. I was told oh no, everything is
normal here...You probably just need to remove the program and
reload it on your computer....I accessed DOT1 this morning and now
it appears that no number for this company works and their network
is defunct alltogether. I called my credit card company and the
fraud department slipped up and said "oh yeah I had a call just like
this a moment ago" he called all the numbers that worked before plus
the number that is reported to my account for the charges and
replied"Normally we would ask you to wait until they bill you again,
but in this case I am going to report this as a fraud charge now and
file it under dispute." So here you have it- No slander in that.
This is the actual happeneings og my evening. I feel for you
employees...Makes me sick knowing how wonderful you are were to me
and how you have been done over...formerly acurry2@dot1web.com

Dave - jump in that Poetworld
limo if you see it! I've been waiting for it to roll by here for 10
months. Can't complain as long as the isp works so well. When these
big tech companies like dot1web go out, it really makes it bad for
everyone, the employees, the investors and the economy. This guy
will get his hopefully.

re: dot1web settles two-year old suit |
|
|
hmmm....the "original developer"
(as he was called on the old board) PLUS a prestigious lawfirm (who
obviously had the money to see it to the end if they wanted to)
settled on this matter......strange, if they were completely "in the
right".... racketering??....and if the lawsuit with green solutions
is settling, then there isn't an fbi investigation on that
one....... | |

Bruce, You are wrong to call
this outfit "a big tec company", this company made no real money,
this company lived off the hopes, dreams and investor money. I
wonder it this company ever told the investors about all the
lawsuits (full disclosure) that they were funding I reall dont think so, because I think anybody who has any
extra money to invest and since this company being a privately held
company(at the time) would say Wait a min. How many lawsuits are
against you and they are for what To see this
company being sued for non-payment of goods and service rendered and
then the company turns back to the investors and tells them that
they are in trouble because of some x-employees and other companies
that Dot1web had delt with are suing them are totally crazy. For a
CEO to blame anybody except him or herself for the finances are
total out of his or her mind. And here is for the
administrator for libel and false statements-you will find the links
provide info about this company and about the owner.
http://www.tahoebonanza.com/ http://www.ccwashoe.com/ And if you go to
arcives in the tahoe bonanza webside and type in the last name of
the owner DEMAIO , you will find 6 or
7 articles on this company, and if you go to http://www.ccwashoe.com/ and do a search by
company name and type in the previous name of this company,
Lowestbids.com inc. you will find court cases against him and the
former name of Dot1web.

response to questions |
|
|
Hi Everyone.
I normally
would not respond on a message board but I will this time.
Our ISP is running fine. We had an outlook express email
issue but I believe we know the cause and it will be resoved
shortly.
As for the toll free 800 phone number. We are
moving into new offices and will connect that number back up in the
next few days. Our 24 hour Live Help is available as well as
email.
As for those of you who have written us off. We have
worked hard to build a value ISP with good connections and customer
service. As with a lot of upstart companies, we experienced some
issues beyond our control. We have worked to resolve the issues
and are moving forward.
As for our former employees, we
valued your hard work and dedication and appologize for the layoffs.
All is being done to resolve any past issues.
To our loyal
customers, thank you for standing by us and the kind words of
encouragement. We look forward to serving you for a long time to
come.
These have been difficult weeks, to all who worked
hard in the last few weeks to help us continue and move forward, a
real heartfelt Thank You.

Now, there is a credible post for
you. I am sure that will make you all feel so much better and no
longer concerned about either your service or your paychecks as the
case may be.
"Upstart" company sounds just about right. I
live 60 miles form Las Vegas, but when the wind is right, you can
smell this sort of stink coming over the "hump."
The poster
implies who he is and doesn't even bother to register or use his
real name? An excellent argument for required registration. Sure
cuts down on the bull.
I am glad I DON'T have a dog in that
fight. I just naturally hate no-name cowards who hide behind a
keyboard to snipe at their betters.

IF that post was from Mr. Bob
DeMaio, CEO of LowestBids, DotOneWeb, etc., it read like his typical
speeches. Not one single fact or any other piece of objective
information that anyone could count on or verify. Not one word about
when the laid-off employees would be paid. Not one word about when
the small investors would get their money back. Didn't even list the
800 number that's going to be availabe to subscribers by
when? | |

Let me just say that I was there. I was there
in engineering through the summer and fall when 60+ hour, 7-day work
weeks were mandatory. I was there when engineers were called in for
no good reasons on weekends under the threat of termination. I was
there the day we were all laid-off. The only lay-off notice we got
was when we showed up for work that morning and were told we would
be allowed into the building ONLY to collect our personal things,
and to then leave immediately. No thanks or words of appreciation
were ever given, and the only things we were ever told about getting
our back pay were all untrue. That was over a month ago.

Incredibly, the Department of Business &

are on the books, but nobody's home.

I'm glad I got terminated when I
did, because I wasn't one of the people who got to work for free.
Also, I got a job right away. Now I have a way better job, with an
office, a real company and a real product to build. I'm so glad I
didn't get canned when everyone else did. Otherwise the job market
would be much tighter. I made $33,000 in the 4 months I was there,
got a lot of big bills paid off, and I am soooo happy now.
I'll bet the people who fired me thought they were gonna
have the last laugh. Turns out, they did me a huge favor, and
they're the ones who got screwed!!! Ha ha ha.
I'm also glad
I wasn't one of the fools who went to work on Labor Day night. I'm
glad too that I only worked 40 - 45 hours a week. I got fired for
not working 50-55. Gee, I really missed out and such a future with
that company. NOT!!!!
Thanks a ton!!!
