Re Clinton’s trip to Vietnam.
As a lame-duck president, Bill Clinton could not promise anything to the Vietnamese. Because of the uncertainty of who would be the next president, Clinton could not promise the people there that he would bring back any messages either. With Hillary on his side, he may not be able to visit those disco joints in Saigon.
For a short staying of few days, he won’t be able to see things and visit many places to make any impression or any differences.
Maybe, what Clinton would get out of the trip is a lot of sweat because of the tropical weather, some smiley but shallow diplomatic greeting, and the meaningless statistical fact of being the first U.S. President... blah blah blah.
