MY FATHER-IN-LAW
My father-in-law, Lu Xuan Do, must be one of the best fathers around.
He makes sure that his own father, who is 85 years old and is in Vietnam, is being well taken care off.
He takes good care of his children, and treats us, his son-in-law and daughters-in-law, as if we were his own children.
Coming to the United States 20 years ago and being unable to speak English, Do and his wife have managed to raise six children; four already have families of their own, and two are in college now.
Although retired, Do is as busy as ever. He keeps his house and our houses in their best condition. He volunteers to run our errands because we work during the day. He baby-sits our children (his grandchildren) and takes them to the doctor when they are sick.
Outside the home, Do serves as treasurer of the local Vietnamese association.
Do's children, friends, associates, and people who know him seek out his advice in time of trouble, or his help and comfort in time of difficulty.
He gives us a model of a good friend, a good son, a good husband, and a good father.
