Brushes with Fame

Ok so for the longest time I thought it sucked that basically every single person in my immediate family has met a famous person. I thought I was never gonna meet anyone famous. I know, they're normal human beings just like the rest of us, but to meet a famous person is cool just because!

My father was a mover when he was young. So he met tons of famous people in California. Plus at one point and time he was going to be a player for the Chicago Bears, a LONG time ago. So, he met a lot of people like Mike Ditka and Dick Butkus when they were players.

My mother was a flight attendant back in the day. So hello she's gonna meet 'em .. right?

Well, I finally have gotten my brushes with fame. And I hope to have quite a few more.

So exactly what were these brushes with fame that I've had? Well read below to find out! :-)

Jim Varney::

A friend of mine and I were on vacation in Tennesee back when I was a freshman in high school. We ran across Jim Varney, Ernest, himself. We were just walking down the road and he was driving home. He was awesome. Very friendly.

Ernie Banks::

Yes that's right I've met "Mr. Cub" himself. I used to work at Sears Hardware in Lemont, IL. Well I believe it was the summer of 1998. And every summer a special Golf tournament is held in Lemont, IL at Cog Hill Golf Course. I'm not into golf so I'm not exactly sure which tournament it is. But All of the celebrities are involved.

You may be asking what does Sears Hardware and the Golf Tournament have anything to do with one another.. right?

Well, apparently the battery to his Jaguar had died or was on the verge of dying. And since Sears sells car batteries they dropped by. One of the guys from the floor was outside doing a propane exchange. Then he came running in to ask the manager of Lawn & Garden if we carried a certain type of battery. And he was flipping out. We (the cashiers) were like... "STEVE! Calm down. What is wrong?" And he goes "Ernie Banks is outside! He's outside right in the front! He needs a battery for his car!" We thought he was lying. We're like "Knock it off. Why would he be here?" And he reminded us of the Golf tournament. So, Kathy & I decided to go and check it out. Well there he was sitting in the passenger side of this car right in front. He was talking to one of the customers. And Kathy (who was the Asst. Manager of the store) walked up to him to try to act as if we were out there to help him with something. Then, she was like "Can we have your autograph sir?" And he was like "Sure hunny no problem!" He had some pics in the glove compartment, pulled them out and autographed them for us. Then Steve and the other manager came out and told him they were sorry and didn't have the battery. :-( Oh well. He is a very nice man. He was talking to us and everything.. conversation .. you know. Nice man!

Kyle Chandler::

If you have seen the television show Early Edition then you know exactly who Kyle Chandler is! In March of 1999 one of the episodes had been taped in Lockport, IL, my home town at the time. My best friend Staci and I had found out and since it was the day before our first *N SYNC concert we were hyped up and excited. So, we decided to take the chance to see if we could get a picture of him or maybe even be an extra. So what happened? We were driving down state street and saw them recording something at the bank on the corner. We drove to the library parking lot, grabbed our cameras, and we turned the corner to basically run into Kyle himself. He was very nice, stopped for a pic, and went on his way. We didn't get to be extras but that's ok. Watching was cool enough. Staci has the pic somewhere.. I still haven't gotten a copy of it :-( but I will, I hope!

Joey Fatone, Sr.::

Ok, for those of you who know me and don't know who he is, you deserve a smack! For those of you who don't know me then you're relieved! ha ha! Anyway, Joey Fatone, Sr. is the father of one of the members of *N SYNC, Joey Fatone, Jr., and is a member of the group NSB2 aka Not So Boy Band.

It was April of 2002. Staci and I went to Rosemont, Il for the 2 concerts *N SYNC was having with NSB2 as their opening act. It was the second day and we were bored in the hotel room so we decided to go to Target! WOOHOO! What fun!? So we were just walkin' around and went in the snack aisle to get ourselves something to tie us over. Well, Staci looked up and just stopped. She starts hitting me and is all like "ROSE! That was Joey's Dad!" and I whipped around and didn't see him. We walked to the end of the aisle and looked and I gasped! I couldn't believe it! And of course I didn't have my letter on me which I had carried with me at all times for 2 years and finally stopped. Go figure! Well, we did a cut through and went to a different aisle to make sure it was him. It was! So as non chalantly as we could without looking like overgrown teeny boppers we walked up to him and introduced ourselves. I was so nervous, I shook the entire time. I couldn't believe I was meeting him. It was awesome. He was a very nice man!
