The Queen of Egypt, Nefertiti, was known for her great beauty and was idolized by the people. She was a symbol of erotic love, motherhood, familial love, and the ideal woman. People in ancient Egypt were so enamored of her that they prayed to her and she was considered as a goddess. This is interesting in that her husband, Pharaoh Akhnaton introduced the idea of the sun disk Aton as being the only god over all. Some have speculated that the influence of Moses found root in this pharaoh. Pharaohs, royal monarchs, and conquerors in the ancient world claimed authority by reason of being divine or of divine origin. In Sumer some of the ancient kings claimed having been descended from beings that came down from the heavens establishing their order here on earth. Here again we see the link between the sun as a god and fertility religion together in this royal couple. The Egyptians had many gods and goddesses who eventually came back into favor after Akhnaton. The above rendition of Nefertiti is adapted from a photo of a plaster bust of Queen Nefertiti.
