Awesome Autobiographies

 

Grade Level:                    Third through Five 

 

Subject Integration:         Language Arts

 

ISTE Objective(s):           1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,

 

Instruction:

 

1.                  Students will begin by planning by writing things down things about ones self.

 

2.                  Some things they might write down include.

A.     Early Years

1.      Where were they born?

2.      What day and what time of the day were they born?

3.      What city were they born?

B.     Toddler Years

1.      Where did they live? Did they move?

2.      Any funny stories as a toddler

C.     Starting School

1.      Talk about the first few years of school.

2.      What school was it? Who was your teacher?

3.      Did you go on any field trips?

D.     Primary Grades (1-3)

1.      Who were some of your teachers?

2.      What school?  Did you move?

3.      Any field trips? And trips for vacation?

E.      Future

1.      What do you want to be when you grow up?

2.      What would be a fun job?

3.      Where do you want to go to college?

 

3.                  Then this information will be put together in some sort of multimedia presentation.  Programs such as Hyperstudio, PowerPoint, KidPix, and many others. The first slide should be a title slide or card, then a slide/card for each of the above sections.

 

4.                  Slide shows can then be put together with animations, sounds, voice recordings, small video clips, etc…

 

5.                  Students should be allowed to scan a personal picture into the computer so they can put into their presentation.  They could be allowed other scanned in pictures so they can make their presentation personal.

 

6.                  Students personal work, such as personal art pictures, should also be scanned in to have the students original work.


Alternative Instruction:

 

·        Rather than doing autobiographies, students could do Biographies on a classmate, or famous Americans, Presidents, Kings, Scientists, or just any biography.  Parts of the questions will have to be modified for many of these biographies.
