There is something that all Christians are called to do, whether young, old, fat, slim, stupid or wise. You don't need a degree or letters after your name to do this thing, or to understand it even. You don't have to be an ultra special person.
However. You do have to be a Christian, which means at some point, God has entered into your life at your invitation. Some people would call this experience new birth, being born again or saved.
The thing which I speak of is prayer. The most talked about, but the least done. Let me give you an example, which I have seen in practice. The Church sends out invitations to the congregation to come to a quiz night and the following week to a special prayer meeting. The quiz night is oversubscribed and the prayer meeting has only a hand full of people, need I say more. This example is quite a common one, a thermometer relating to the spiritual temperature of a church.
If I carried out a survey across the Christian church with regard to peoples prayer habits, I am sure I would have answers similar to those listed below.
Some might say:
1 They don't pray at all:
2 They pray only in emergencies:
3 Like Daniel in the Old Testament, some prayed three times a day:
4 They have a quite time of prayer early morning:
5 They only pray in church:
6 They only pray in the prayer meeting:
7 They only pray when leading a meeting:
How can we have a relationship with the living God, when don't talk to him. If we were to stop talking to a friend how long would the friendship last?
Jesus rose early in the morning and found a place to pray. On occasion he prayed all night. Sometimes during the day he went to a quite place to pray. On occasion he prayed with his disciples and many times in the day for the sick. The truth of the matter is that Jesus was praying most of the day and every day. If Jesus who was God the son needed to pray many times in the day, how much more do we need to pray.
