01 Apr 2000 18:17:32 -0400.-Dear Elen, Nice work! I am a woman, a wood carver and self-taught as well, although.I have studied some painting and drawing. I live in the United States and am a philosophy professor. I am begining to see that there are more serious woman wood carvers in the world than I initially thought. Now I know of about 5 including myself: Nora Hall: http://www.norahall.com (american, but comes from Holland) Eva Ryynanen (no website yet, finnish) Ann Browers: http://users.pandora.be/houtsculptuur.browers (from Belgium) myself: http://www.oocities.org/SoHo/Exhibit/9714 (american) I am asking art magazines to do a feature on woman wood carvers, but I have had no response as of yet. But if I have any luck, I will put you on the list; we are somewhat rare. Best of luck,Steff Rocknak

Sat, 19 Dec 1998 06:13:29 EST. Dear Mr. and Mrs. Uralova, Your miniature wood carvings are very exceptional! The proportion and detail leave me speechless! It is also very rare to find an artist that can express herself in more than one kind of carving. You are very accomplished in Miniature "in the round" carving (your chess characters) as well as "functional" carving (your boxes) and "relief carving" (decorative work on box lids). Do you also do the "chip carving" on the border of the chess boards? Amazing! May you continue to thrive in your art work. Jim Davies (a whittler) Hartford, Ohio USA
