AETERNUS (NOR)
"A darker monument" (2003) [Nocturnal Art Prod.]
Aeternus grants our sick world with yet another album , and once
again proves that not only superiour blackmetal emerges from the land
of grimness, known as Norway. Just like the legendary IMMORTAL
they originate from the city of Bergen (the norwegian bay-area) and
this is their seventh release ( I think).
In spite of all releases and the
fact that AETERNUS have been active since 1993, I still have not
heard so much of them. But from what I´ve heard my comment is
that they are not the most original act, yet without doubt worth to
check out if you´re into heavy and pounding deathmetal that has a
certain stench of Florida (the american bay-area). However, if
you suffer from headache and fever, like I do for the moment, then
I strongly suggest that you listen to something more relaxing.
AETERNUS (NOR) "Shadows Of Old" (1999) [HAMMERHEART REC.]
Aeternus has been a favourite of mine since I heard the Dark Sorcery EP some years back. This is their 3rd fullength album and probably their best! On this album they have more or less crossed over from being a Black Metal band to a more Death Metal style but still the Black Metal feeling is there. The power on this album overwhelms me with thunderous riffing and drumming as once heard back in the early nineties with bands like Cannibal Corpse and Napalm Death and Ares’ vocals are impressive as always. When it comes to melody and atmosphere these guys don’t need keyboards…just listen to the guitar moods and the calm acoustic parts that surprises you all of a sudden. This is a kick in the balls to all the bands that have wimped out lately!
