EMPEROR (NOR) "IX Equilibrium" (1999) [CANDLELIGHT]
The slaughterous Emperor of black metal are come back. Of course, "IX equilibrium" sounds a bit different from their previous release but it's mostly due to the variety and richness of its sound so, surely, it needs more than a superficial listening. They like to experiment using a lot of tempo and style's variations from black metal to heavy metal music and using a lot of different vocals too: screaming, cleaning (and charming!) and choirs. Probably someone will find this work too complicated but to me it's a really deep and, of course, the most accurate work of this band from layout (look to the enchanting cover and designs by Stephen O'Malley and Samoth) to recordings. I've found really interesting these "experiments" (except for the vocals in "The source of Icone" which are not in my taste) and their evolution.
