EVERGREY "Solitude, Dominance, Tragedy" (1999) [Hall Of Sermon Rec.]
This Swedish quartet does their things nicely. I guess they play some kind of gothic influenced by metal, well anyway it's metal and that's all that counts. The vocalist impresses me quite a bit with a powerful sad-sounding voice. The guys have some violin parts in the music which I would say fits in perfectly. The first song on this album is probably the best cuz it has a special emotional burst. The songs has a quite original twist to it (to me anyway) and have a quite good variation on instruments and luckily the keyboard parts don't take the control over the songs. I especially like the way they vary from intense metal songs to the more calm and sad parts. The choir they use on the CD is very much appreciated: bravo! The only negative thing I
could mention is that the album isn't all interesting to the end, maybe next time? I'm looking forward to the next album from these guys...soon?
