IN RUINS (USA) "Four Seasons of grey" (1998) [METAL BLADE]
If you only look the enchanting cover (a dark castle nearby a silvery lake) and listen to their emotional doom/death music with a lot of dark influences, probably you will imagine the band comes from England. On the contrary In ruins comes from USA but their last albums "Four seasons of grey" contains 8 songs of depressive and gloomy music: some guitars riifs as for example in "The haunted moon" and in the title track song remind me the great Katatonia (but this band is still incomparable!) even though some parts are more aggressive as in "Beyond the black lake" and also in "Forest of the impaled" that is more near to black metal sound! You could also find other influences in their various music as in the folk/Celtic song "Nocturne" or in "Vampire, garden if thorns" and "Black thorns" more in the dark vein, Such a variety, together with the perfect synth performances add perfectly to the atmosphere of their deep and wise music, is another food contribute to the beauty of "Four seasons of grey", an album full of feelings and atmosphere. The American Katatonia!
