MORGUL (NOR) "Parody of the Mass" (1998) [NAPALM REC.] Playing time: 38.51"
I was really astonished by their first obscure release "Lost in shadows Grey" so I was curious to listen to their new one "Parody of the Mass". First, the sound recording is better as this time they recorded at the Abyss Studio. Of course they play dark black metal but you can also listen some parts which, are more in death metal vein (probably due to the influences of Abyss sound). The two lugubrious guys from Morgul have written cruelty and decadent words on the booklet and their music is really in this way: they are really able to create obscure atmospheres using also keyboards and slow parts as in the piano performance in "Torn" song that surely will astonished you after the previous violent parts: the decadent melancholy of a bleeding rose among a gray cemetery. The rage explodes again in "Author of pain" before to leave us with the gloomy notes of "The End". Finally a fresh wind among all the graves where too many black metal bands are resting!
