SKYMNING (SWE) "Stormchoirs" (1998) [INVASION REC.] Playing time: 54.08"
Invasion Rec. has lately produced a lot of interesting bands as such a young Swedish one. Skymning plays melodic death metal in Dark Tranquillity vein but with more heavy metal influences and some good thrash riffs too as, for example, in "Sweeping the World" song. Even though they are really young they have nothing to envy to the most famous bands: they already sound aggressive, various and probably more fresh than these ones, using many changes of tempo, impetuous guitar solo, melodic and melancholic parts too. It's really difficult to choice a song among the 10 tracks of "Stormchoirs" as in every one you can find these good elements. Anyway, to me the delights are "Above" and "The question" which in beginning caress you and try to open your soul to music by their melancholic and depressive sweetness... but after a while such a suffering changes into the violent rage to live such a hell called life. There is really nothing to complain about this album: good skills, good sound (engineered by Andy La Roque) and good layout... good luck, guys!
