THE SINS OF THY BELOVED "Perpetual Desolation" 2000 [Napalm Rec.]
The expectation I had to this album was enormous, maybe even too much. After listening to it, over and over again, I finally agreed with myself that it wasn't nearly as good as the debut. A little disappointment at my hands. But that doesn't mean it's bad, on the contrary, it's very good. The thing is that they turned their style a little too much towards the black metal side (vocals) instead of just being doomy and dark. The first album "Lake Of Tears" had a better feeling to it, much more dark and sad and has a better way of stirring up emotions in me. "Perpetual Desolation." has a better production and sound, but still it can't reach up to the "kick" I got from hearing "L.O.T." which is one of my favourite gothic-doom albums ever together with Tristania's "Widow's Weeds". The Metallica's cover "The Thing That Should Not Be" is a very good one (there're not too many good covers these days): even if I think it's not a good idea to put covers on normal albums I must say I liked it cuz of the original performance with the female vocals in it. I really missed the dark and growly vocals on this album as it were on the last one...can you guys fix that the next time?!?
