TRISTANIA "Beyond The Veil" (1999) [Napalm Rec.]
The expectations to this album wasn't any less than The Sins Of Thy Beloved's new one, maybe even bigger. After hearing the single "Angina" the expectations hit the roof-top. The Song "Opus Relinque" is a major high in the gothic-doom world if you ask me, even though the feeling and mood can't be compared to any of the songs on "Widow's Weeds". There are a few disappointing spots on "B.T.V." too as in the new CD from The Sins of Thy Beloved. The vocals, for example, are a bit in the Black Metal-ish style here too. They used this kind of vocals the previous time too, here and there, but on this album there're more. I've always meant that the dark death-doomy vocals fits better to this kind of music. One other thing is that in so many parts of the CD the cymbals and parts of the drumming sounds very "static" and dull as a drum machine (is it a drum machine or is the drummer just inspired by one?) Well, well enough of that...the music in general is quite satisfying in most parts, just not like the "Widow's Weeds".
