VAMPIRIA “Among Mortals” (2000) [ICARUS]
Well, Vampiria is not exactly a creative name but from the “Prelude” the band’s members show their great potential and technical skills and the rest is soon forgotten. The band plays a symphonic black metal with the archetypal elements like female vocals, keyboards and lots of heavy metal as well as power metal parts (listen fro example to the guitar solo in “Brother Wolf” and the opener track) which on the opposite are not exactly typical for the black metal bands.
I’ve also appreciated the clean male vocals which give an additional weight to this already excellent release. I’m impressed by the good level of this album so if you’re confused by the many average productions in this popular style, “Among Mortals” will be a certain and valuable choice.
