NOTE: The views on these doctrines are not official statements of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

  1. Do not add to or take away from the word. (Revelation 22:18-19)
    1. When John made this statement there was no Bible.
    2. The book of Revelation is a self-inclusive book (Revelation 1:4) therefore, it does not apply to the rest of the Bible.
    3. If you take Revelation 22:18-19 literally, then you also have to accept Deuteronomy 4:2

  2. Saved by Grace, you only have to confess Jesus to be saved. (Ephesians 2:8-9 & Romans 10:9)
    1. James 2:17-20 The devils believe and it hasn't got them anywhere. James 1:22; Matthew 7:21-23; Revelation 20:13; Romans 2:6.

  3. God, Jesus and Holy Ghost are one. "Trinity"
    1. Matthew 3:16-17; Acts 7:55-56; John 17:14-23 showing the symbolism of being one. Mark 13:32 & 14:36; John 20:17

  4. God is a Spirit (John 4:24 no form or shape)
    1. We all have spirits, God has one also. If you take it literal that God only has Spirit, then we can only worship him in Spirit, we can't have a body (Philippians 3:3)
    2. Hebrews 1:1-3, Jesus was the express image of his person, was Jesus only Spirit?
    3. If God is a Spirit and if Jesus is God, what happened to Jesus' Body after his resurrection (assuming you believe in the "trinity"). Luke 24:39; 2 John 1:7. You have to believe that Christ is in the flesh now or you are a deceiver and an anti-Christ. How can Christ be in the flesh now and God be a Spirit and they are the same person?
    4. 1 John 3:1-2

  5. No on has ever seen God (John 1:18)
    1. John 6:46

    2. Read 1 Corinthians 12:28; Ephesians 4:11-14; Hebrews 13:8; Galatians 1:7-8

  7. The Heavens are closed, there is no need for Prophets
    1. God is the same forever (Hebrews 13:8) His truth is unchanging, we should all have the same doctrine, but we don't (1 Corinthians 1:10) this is why God speaks through holy Prophets and Apostles, Amos 3:7. Without Apostles and Prophets we are blown about with every wind of Doctrine (Ephesians 4:11-14).
    2. If God is perfect and unchanging, why is there so many ways to get to heaven?
    3. Acts 2:17-18

  8. The Bible is infallible and is the complete word of God

    1. God is eternal and unchanging (Hebrews 13:8). Righteous men in the past have had more than one wife. (2 Samuel 5:13)
    2. The Lord will command men to have more than one wife if needed, otherwise it is not approved. (Jacob 2:27-30).
    3. Official Declaration of the Church

  10. You guys wouldn't let black people hold the Priesthood in your church. God is not racist.
    1. Matthew 10:5, no preaching to the Gentiles, God denied all people the Gospel but the Jew. Similar to one kind of person can hold the Authority and one can't. Go to Acts 9:15 by revelation from God the prior commandment was changed just as it has with black people and the Priesthood.
    2. See declaration at end of D&C

  11. Not everyone will be resurrected
    1. Acts 24:15; 1 Corinthians 15:21-22

  12. Anyone can be a preacher or have the authority of God
    1. Man must be called of God as was Aaron (Hebrews 5:4). Jesus Christ ordained his Apostles and gave them the authority to do his work (Matthew 10:1-5). Authority is given by the laying on of the hands by those who have been ordained. Acts 13:1-3; 1 Timothy 4:14
    2. Acts 19:13-16 People cursed for assuming authority
    3. Acts 8:14-23; Authority can not be bought

    1. The Bible never commands the use of wine, it commands that you partake of the cup. Matthew 26:26-28; Luke 22:19-20
    2. If there's a Prophet on the earth today our interpretation of the scriptures is right. D&C 27:2

  18. The Three Nephites can't still be alive.
    1. Matthew 16:28; John 21:22-23. Good scriptures that allude to John still being alive today, just as the three Nephites.

  19. Why does it in Alma 7:10 say that Christ was to be born in Jerusalem, "this is a mistake"?
    1. 2 Kings 14:20, if the Book of Mormon is wrong, so is the Bible.
    2. The word "at" in Alma 7:10 is describing the area in which they were familiar. If you were born in Agra, Oklahoma and you were talking to someone in New York; you wouldn't tell this guy you were born in Agra, but you'd tell him you were born in Oklahoma.

  20. There should be no instruments in church meetings.
    1. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 then go to 1 Nephi 10:21. Would having instruments make you spiritually unclean or put you in a state to where you could not dwell with God? Is it a sin? Revelation 14:2. If playing instruments in church is a sin and keeps your from dwelling with God, what is an angel doing in the presence of God playing a harp?
    2. The Old Testament is full of instruments used in worshipping God.

QUOTES FROM EARLY CHRISTIAN REFORMERS

  1. Martin Luther; I have sought nothing beyond reforming the church in conformity with the Holy Scriptures. The Spiritual powers have been not only corrupted by sin, but absolutely destroyed; so that there is now nothing in them but a depraved reason and a will that is the enemy and opponent of God. I simply say that Christianity has ceased to exist among those who should have preserved it. (In Galata. (1535) Weins IX, P.I. 293, 24-27, p.50, Luther and His Times, p. 509, Martin Luther, p. 188)
  2. John Wesley; It does not appear that these extraordinary gifts of the Holy Ghost were common in the Church for more than two or three centuries. We seldom hear of them after that fatal period when the Emperor Constantine called himself a Christian;... From this time they almost totally ceased;... The Christians had no more of the Spirit of Christ than the other heathens.... This is the real cause why the extraordinary gifts of the Holy Ghost were no longer to be found in the Christian Church; because the Christians were turned Heathens again, and had only a dead form left. (Wesley's Works, vol.7, Sermon 89, pp. 26-27)
  3. Roger Williams; There is no regularly constituted Church on Earth, nor any person authorized to administer any church ordinance; nor can there be until new Apostles are sent by the great head of the Church for whose coming I am seeking. (Picturesque America, p. 502)
  4. Thomas Jefferson; The religion builders have so distorted and deformed the doctrines of Jesus, so muffled them in mysticisms, fancies, and falsehoods, have caricatured them into forms so inconceivable, as to shock reasonable thinkers.... Happy in the prospect of a restoration of primitive Christianity, I must leave to younger persons to encounter and top off the false branches which have been engrafted into it by the mythologists of the middle and modern ages. (Jefferson's Complete Works, Vol. 7, pp. 210 and 257)
