Director's Notes
"Seuss," like "Triks," is for kids they say But not this Seuss and not this play. This Seussian play with pool noodles and a hat Has morals that range from love to combat. From out of this hat you'll find things that are relephant As seen through the eyes of a boy, cat and elephant. When General Schmidtz sends his young boys to fight You too, like our Jojo, might ask if it's right. Will fighting convince someone we do not know, Which way to eat bread or the way they should go? And Goleta, like Whoville, is finding its way Toward slow growth, or no growth or more growth each day. Perhaps you're like Horton who lives to believe Or believes how to love is to give and receive. You may not be guarding an egg in a tree Or a tiny who planet no one else can quite see. But you, like our hero, might think that you're sunk And not even see what's right under your trunk. You're host for this evening is a Cat that you know One your mom introduced you to long, long ago. But we and the Cat are much wiser today Than we were in the days when we just got to play. Or are we? Have we lost that fantastical imagination That made us that magical miracle nation, Or caused us to wonder at our own creation Or laugh in the wind with sheer exhilaration?

No!

Some things in life can't be found in a bubble, Or tested until students' eyes are seeing double No Scantrons or textbooks or fill in the blanks Will give us new "thinks," or fill our gas tanks Or give us clean waters that flow between banks Or leaders that sit down in peace and give thanks Or creative new teachers to fill up our ranks So let's listen close to what the Cat has to say As we sit here tonight and watch this "kids'" play.

Geoffrey Bell is making his theatrical debut at Dos Pueblos. His favorite performances include The King and I, Oliver!, and Fiddler on the Roof, all with SBCLO, and Turnip Family Secrets with Genesis West Productions. Though he inevitably changes the subject to theater, he would like to remind everyone that he has many other interests, including literature; he has just finished reading the wonderful plays Death of a Salesman and Barefoot in the Park.

Leigha Bolduc is a sophomore in her first DP theater performance.

Kat Brady has been in musicals since elementary school and has been singing her entire life. At Goleta Valley Junior High, she played Medda in Newsies and a pirate in Peter Pan. She has also performed in Starmites and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum with SBYT. She wishes to thank the directors and everyone in the cast and crew.

Sarah Breck is a senior performing in her second musical production with Mr. Sayre. Sarah is Junior Miss of Santa Barbara for 2005 as well as the 2004-2005 MTV Choose or Lose news correspondent. She is actively involved in Leadership at Dos Pueblos and plans to move to Los Angeles after graduation.

Ashley Brittain is a sophomore performing on the Dos Pueblos stage for the first time.

Molly Fitch Calhoun is a junior who was last seen in Mystery Night as Polly Parker. She is a member of the DP Improv Troupe and has been in the DP productions Grand Duchy and Once on this Island. She would like to thank Jesus for giving her his blessing.

Ben Cappello is a senior who was last seen on the DP stage as Rudy in Grand Duchy. He also appeared in Once on this Island.

Molly Clarke is sophomore who was last seen in SBYT’s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Seussical is her debut on the Charger Stage. Ari Cohen is a freshman. He enjoys acting and he was previously seen in Goleta Valley Junior High’s Little Shop of Horrors and Newsies. In his free. time, he listens to music, sleeps, eats, plays guitar, and listens to more music.

Pat Dale was last seen on the DP stage in Mystery Night. He has also performed in The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged), Story Theatre, and Holiday Package 2003. Pat is a returning member of the DP Improv Troupe and serves as the Improv representative on TAB.

Karisa Daniels is a 15-year-old sophomore. Seussical is the second production she has participated in at DP, the first being last year's winter play, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). She has enjoyed being in Seussical and she hopes to be in more productions to come.

Alexa Dell is a junior who enjoys musical theater, singing, and dancing. Her theater experience includes How Green Is You Valley? and Music of the Night. She has also been in Kiss Me Kate and played the role of Grace in Annie. She also is a member of the DP Jazz Choir and one of the directors for this year’s production of Music of the Night.

Trevor Dow started performing at the age of two, sitting in a shopping cart at the supermarket. He would engage and entertain anyone and everyone within earshot and eyeshot. The shopping cart gave way to many stages over the years, including SBYT's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Seussical as his first DP production. At least we won’t have to worry about anyone saying over the loudspeaker, "Clean-up on aisle three."

Erik Finck is a senior who has been involved in every Charger Theater production since he was a freshman. He is also a four-year member of the Improv Troupe and TAB president. Although in reality he has no Thing 1 or Thing 2 to assist him, he has often thought they would be useful, especially if they could do algebra. He would like to thank his family, friends, and teachers, and his own cat, Kitty.

Kaila Foster recently moved to California from Toronto, Ontario. She has been in many productions, her most recent being Les Miserables. She loves acting, snowboarding, skiing, and hanging out with her friends.

Crystal Franco is a 14-year-old freshman. She has been doing theater for two years. Crystal is happy to be part of the Seussical cast.

Sean Garner is a sophomore making his Charger Theater debut. He was previously seen in Newsies and Peter Pan at Goleta Valley Junior High and in numerous Showstoppers productions.

Isaiah Garnica, a senior, has performed in many DP shows, including Once Upon a Mattress and Grand Duchy. His one-act play was featured in the Santa Barbara Young Playwright’s Festival at the Ensemble Theatre and he is currently on DP’s Improv Troupe. After high school, Isaiah will major in film production and acting. He hopes to pursue a career in directing and acting for film (and maybe some theatre, too).

Zoë Georgakis has been involved in technical theater since her freshmen year of high school, having crewed every show over the past two years. She is TAB’s technical representative and was most recently on crew for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum with SBYT. Though this is her first show as stage manager, it is her second Seuss show: Zoë appeared in Showstoppers' 1994 production of Dr. Seuss on the Loose.

Claire Gordon-Harper has been acting since the age of four. Her debut in Seussical is only the beginning of her DP acting career.

Gabe Gordon-Harper is a junior who is very excited to be in his fourth musical at DP. He also played the title role in Peter Pan and Tommy Djilas in The Music Man at Goleta Valley Junior High. Gabe has also performed in several productions with SBYT, and he was in SBCLO’s Oliver!

Caitlyn Hardman is a junior who has been working in the theater since the beginning of her sophomore year. She has been floor managing since Grand Duchy and has worked on several shows since then, including Mystery Night, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), and Holiday Package 2003.

Alex Heyer is a senior performing on the Dos Pueblos stage for the first time. He also sings with the award-winning DP Jazz Choir.

Ariel Horwitz is a sophomore who enjoys acting, singing, and most of all, dancing. She has been dancing since she was three, and she has been singing and acting since she was nine. When she grows up, she hopes to be a star on Broadway

Whitney Hutchings is a sophomore who was previously seen in Grand Duchy. She also appeared in Newsies and Peter Pan at Goleta Valley Junior High.

Josh Jenkins is a sophomore has been involved in acting for most of his life. He has been in many acting camps including Lobero Youth Theater. Along with acting, Josh is in the DP Jazz Choir and plays guitar.

Avian Johnson is a senior who has been actively involved in the performing arts for much of her life. She has performed in over twenty local shows, most recently appearing as Miss Jones in last year's spring show Mystery Night. She also currently holds the position of secretary in DP’s very own fabulous Theatre Arts Boosters.

Danae Labrana is a senior who is performing on the Dos Pueblos stage for the first time. She has been in plays since she was in elementary school.

Taylor Lane is a sophomore new to the DP stage.

Dylan Morrow-Jones is a freshman who was last seen as Harold Hill in Stage Left’s production of The Music Man. At Goleta Valley Junior High, he was active in performing arts, playing Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors and percussion in the advanced band. He is also a member of DP’s award-winning jazz band.

Nicole Mosher is a junior performing in the Charger Theater for the first time. She has been dancing, singing, and acting since elementary school. Nicole was heavily involved with the Young Actors’ Workshop for five years.

Dana Ortner is a sixteen-year-old junior. She has been working with Clark Sayre since the 7th grade with her role in The Music Man. Since then, she has been in several productions, including Peter Pan and The Wiz with Shana Lynch, Alexander Georgakis’s How Green Is Your Valley, and Grand Duchy. She is also a proud alto of the Dos Pueblos Jazz Choir. To the bük crew—you guys are the best.

Steven Pease has done sound for a number of DP shows including The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Grand Duchy, Harvey, Story Theatre, and Holiday Package 2002 and 2003. He also understudied for Mystery Night and was on floor crew for How Green is Your Valley? Although he is senior, Steven has yet to decide on a university to go to.

Jenny Pedersen is on technical crew for the first time. Involved in theater since junior high, she is also on DP’s mock trial team. She is thrilled to be working with such a fantastic cast and crew.

Nikki Richardson has been performing since she was in elementary school and was in every holiday play until junior high. She has also acted in a few Showstoppers productions, including Pirates of Penzance. Nikki also dances ballet, tap, jazz, and hip-hop, and she performed in the ballet version of Alice in Wonderland at the Lobero Theater. She just recently started studying vocal music and wishes to pursue singing throughout her acting career.

Amy Ritchie is a junior performing at DP for the first time. She was most recently in SBYT’s production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and was on floor crew for The Crucible. Amy has also been Wendy Darling in Peter Pan and Zaneeta Shinn in The Music Man at Goleta Valley Junior High. An avid choreographer, as well as a singer in the DP Jazz Choir, Amy hopes to combine all three of her passions of acting, singing, and dancing, for many years to come.

Adam Rothman is a sophomore who was most recently an understudy for Mystery Night.

Evan Sherwin is a fifteen-year-old sophomore who has been rockin’ the Santa Barbara theater world since 2002. He has been involved in numerous productions with Shana Lynch, including Newsies Gabby Shulman is a sixteen-year-old junior who has performed in the last four musicals at DP: Once on this Island, How Green is Your Valley?, Grand Duchy, and now Seussical. Were you wondering...

When will the new theater be built?
Ground breaking is set to begin in February or March. From then it will take approximately eighteen months until completion. The new theater will feature: state of the art lighting and sound, a full fly loft, a sunken orchestra pit, vocal and theater classrooms, a prop/costume storage area, a scene shop, full accessibility, and even a small outdoor stage.

What ever happened to Broadway Beginnings, the high school musical thaeater development program?
Last year's world premiere musical Grand Duchy, honored as one of the ten best high school productions in the country, set the stage for this ambitious program. In order to continue this "first of its kind program in the nation," which is endorsed by many of Broadway's top writers and stars, several things will first need to be in place. These include: 1) completing the new theater which will better showcase polished work, after these original pieces have received readings and workshops in the smaller lab theater 2) receiving encouragement from students, parents, the school, district and community that such a program is worth pursuing 3) offering classes in dance, and musical theater acting/singing technique 4) funding a full-time producer, grant writer/development director who will ensure the long term success of the program by securing ongoing financial support and 5) developing Goleta children's interest and enthusiasm for musical theater (we've begun this part of the vision by bringing Seussical to over one thousand children and following it up with a theater workshop taught by veteran DP actors, set to begin in January.)

When will the the Young Playwrights' Program begin again?
The Young Playwrights' class is offered every other year, and so should begin again next year assuming: 1) the 30:1 class size ratio can be adjusted for this one-on-one class 2) a theater group will co-sponsor a festival, as Ensemble Theatre has done for the past three years.

How do I find out more about DP's Theater Program?
