A Tribute to Michaela and Sully

One of the greatest loves in history

Michaela gave up her life in Boston to seek acceptance in the Colorado Territory as a Woman Doctor. Sully wasn't looking for love after he lost his wife and daughter in childbirth. He was living on his own not having to care about anyone else but himself. When they met they felt strong feelings for each other that was at first only a friendship. After she went back to Boston when her mother was ill he followed her and proclaimed his love for her. She was torn between love and a good match with another Doctor who had threaten to steal her heart. She returned to Colorado and started a different road of courtship with a man she knew she loved, but didn't know if they could make their lives together work. Soon they overcame odds and became engaged. Once again another challenge arose and threaten to take Michaela away from Sully forever. Her fiance' who she had thought died in the war came back after seven years. He told he that he still loved her, but she told him that her heart belonged to someone else. Finally their wedding day came. Michaela Quinn and Byron Sully joined together in marriage on May 20, 1870. Marriage was good but they all had major adjustments to make. Colleen and Brian the most who lost more time with their Ma and Sully who were absorbed with one another in the first few months of their marriages. Eventually they settled into a new life and made it work. Then their daughter Katherine Elizabeth Sully was born a year shy of their first wedding aniversery. Her father delivered her after Sully had been injured in the woods and Cloud Dancing brought a very pregnant Michaela to his aid. Although terrified of the thought of losing his wife and child he set aside his fears to help bring his little girl into the world. After Katie came Michaela lost privacy with her husband and it was hard to be a first time mother with and infant, a doctor, and a wife all at once. But they eventually overcame that as well. Then later on after Cloud Dancing is almost beaten to death after returning late to the reservation Sully vows to help him and the others escape from the harsh rules of the reservation. He buys horses and supplies for them to break free and get away from the soldiers. But then Sully falls over a cliff with Sargent Bryan O'Connor. He is then on trial for murder and treason. Miracously he survives the fall and Michaela finds him and along with their family's help they nurse him back to health. But then raides begin on the town from the Native Americans who ran away from the reservation. Sully wanted to turn himself in but Michaela encouraged him to allow her time to clear his name somehow. While Sully was in hiding Michaela suffered a tragic miscarriage that he didn't learn of until weeks later. Both were heartbroken by it, but moved on in life still. Eventually Sully was pardoned and allowed to go home in time for Christmas. Then shortly after Sully accepts a surveying job Michaela is shot at point blank. She becomes afraid to go back to the clinic and we see a very differnet side to the strong, brave woman. But when a log breaks through the window and almost kills her and her daughter Katie she fianlly sees she's not safe anywhere and that she can't be afraid for the rest of her life. By the end of the year Colleen gets accepted to Medical School and marries her sweetheart Dr. Andrew Cook. And Michaela and Sully along with their family continued to thrive.
