Level 3 - Clanker's Cavern

Quick Analysis
The oxygen limit while swimming makes some elements of this level rather dicey. Get close to an underwater entrance before diving.

Map
Show me the map of Clanker's Cavern (43K).
Show me the map of Clanker Inside (12K).

Where's the Mole?
1. After you free Clanker by swimming through the key tree times, which is way down under Clanker stuck in an anvil. Go inside Clanker through the blowhole and pass the fans and use the Flying Disc to go to the back. Enter the hole and you'll meet Bottles. He'll teach you the invulnerability with Gold Feathers (press and hold Z, then press right-C; this requires Gold Feathers, with 10 as a maximum).

Easy Jigsaw Pieces
See the map for a more precise look at the Jigsaw pieces' locations.

  1. Kill the Crabs - Look for a green hole behind Clanker's rear fin. Swim through it to find an alcove crawling with crabs. Punch or roll through each crab twice to kill all of 'em.
  2. Blow Hole Elevator - After Clanker is freed, stand on the blowhole cover. It'll elevate Banjo-Kazooie to a platform. A thin path leads to a tiny alcove.
  3. Rear Fin Elevator - After Clanker is freed, walk up the rear fin. It leads to a small platform. A puzzle piece lies directly ahead; jump and touch the grate covering it.
  4. Use Gold Feathers - First, Clanker must be freed. After meeting the mole inside the shark, use Invulnerability to run through the high-speed fan blades.
  5. Slow Fan Blades - First, Clanker must be freed. Go down Clanker's blowhole. Run through the slow-moving fans found north of the Gruntilda Stomp Switch.
  6. Shoot Shark's Teeth - After Clanker's freed, go to the floating platforms near his mouth. Shoot eggs at his two gold teeth. Swim in the holes created to find a puzzle piece and a Mumbo Token.
  7. One-Way Swim - Swim through a dead-end pipe in the northeast area of the level. It's at the end.
  8. Jinjos - The only truly hidden Jinjo is the orange one; stomp on the grate above it to get to it. The pink one, in Clanker, is also not easily seen. The rest are either underwater or in plain view.

Difficult Jigsaw Pieces
See the map for a more precise look at the Jigsaw pieces' locations.

  1. Free Clanker - Flawless swimming is required to get this puzzle piece. Dive under Clanker and look for a chain. Follow that chain all the way down. Look for a gold key. Swim through the big hole in the key three times. To survive that long underwater, follow a fish that lets out air bubbles and hit the bubbles for extra oxygen. Don't be in too much of a hurry, or Banjo might overshoot a bubble or the key. Also, don't waste time turning around. Just keep following the fish whenever possible.
  2. Lots of Hoops - This just takes a little practice. The first time in Clanker, there'll be a series of blue rings. Go through all of them and beat the timer. Super Jumps will be needed to get through rings above the water. Remember, it's faster to swim underwater than to stay on the surface.

The 5 Jinjo's
There are 5 Jinjo's to rescue in each level. If you collect all of them you'll be rewarded with a Jigsaw piece and later on ...

Blue Jinjo - In a underwater pipe on Clanker's left (when first meeting him).
Green Jinjo - On the bottom of Clanker's anchor well (besides the anvil).
Pink Jinjo - Where you found the hoops in Clanker's guts it's in one of the side passages.
Orange Jinjo - When you raised Clanker, jump on his right fin to the platform with the grate-monster. Jump left and walk up the pipe onto the drain. Bust the grate (you'll hear him whistle at you).
Yellow Jinjo - In the starting room. Follow the high path of pipes to the left or right. He's behind the bee-hive on the centre platform.

Honeycomb Pieces
First - Look for an odd pipe at the surface of the water near Clanker's right fin (when first entering Clanker's Pool). Swim under the pipe and look up to find it.
Second - Just north of the orange Jinjo location is a short pipe. Get on top of that pipe and stomp on the cover.

100 Music Notes
Here are the locations of all 100 musical notes scattered around Clanker's Cavern. Collect all of these notes as they will help to pass through the special note doors throughout Gruntilda's Lair.

6 Notes - In the underwater passage leading to Clanker's Pool.
8 Notes - On the bottom of the pool near the key.
  8 Notes - Inside Clanker's mouth.
10 Notes - On Clanker's back.
3 Notes - Surface height exit from Clanker's Stomach.
5 Notes - Underwater exit from Clanker's Stomach.
10 Notes - Across the pipe around the rear of Clankers pool.
  8 Notes - Snippet's Mutants Cave.
8 Notes - Around the high ledges near the start.
4 Notes - Thin ledge above Clanker's Blowhole (ride the big bolt).
6 Notes - Through Fans inside Clanker's Blowhole.
6 Notes - Through the fast Fans near Bottles the Mole.
8 Notes - Inside a pipe on the bottom of Clanker's Pool.
2 Notes - In the high up alcoves to the left of Clanker's Pool.
4 Notes - On the pipe to the right of Clanker to climb the wall.
4 Notes - On the pipe slide to the left of the spring platform (near the orange Jinjo).

The Mumbo Tokens
Although Mumbo isn't in Clanker's Cavern, there are five Mumbo Tokens hidden for use later in the game. Collect these tokens as you hunt around the level, but remember you don't need to find them all.

Token 1 - On top of the pipe at the start (reach it via the other pipes).
Token 2 - On the ledge near Clanker's tail.
Token 3 - Inside Clanker's mouth (shoot the golden teeth and walk in).
Token 4 - In a niche at the top of a pole climb.
Token 5 - On a platform on Clanker's right hand side.

Gruntilda Stomp Switch
Go down the blowhole and it's just before the slow fans. Stomp it and continue onwards.
