 The program offered is 5-year MB,BS Diploma (Bachelors of Medicine & Bachelors of Surgery). Degree is awarded by The University of Karachi, Faculty of Medicine, which is the biggest university of Pakistan. Sindh Medical College is listed in the United Nations World Directory of Medical Schools and its degree is recognized and accepted worldwide.

The Curriculum

 

 

 The curriculum covers a period of five years which is divided into two parts:

The Basic Science Curriculum (Preclinical 2 years):

Gross Anatomy

Neuroanatomy

Histology with Cell Biology

Embryology

Medical Biochemistry (with Metabolism, Nutrition, Genetics)

Medical Physiology

Islamic Studies

Pakistan Studies

The instructional strategy at SMC comprises lectures by senior faculty, lab demonstrations and problem solving assignments. Student evaluation methods in basic medical sciences include Multiple Choice Questions (1:1 negative scoring system) on each subject area, time critical object identification and description encounters and direct faculty-student assessments.

The Clinical part (3 years):

During this period students come in close contact with patient and its management team through clinical rotations. Students are rotated on Internal Medicine (including sub-specialties), Surgery (general, thoracic, orthopedic, neurosurgery), Pediatrics (general, neonatology), Obstetrics, Gynecology, Dermatology, Radiology, Intensive Care, Psychiatry, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Radiation Oncology & Chemotherapy, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology. Clinical evaluation methods include Multiple Choice Questions (1:1 negative scoring system) to assess strength in core text, student-patient encounters under faculty supervision to assess skills in history and physical examination and direct student-faculty assessments.

One year work (6 months Internal Medicine with subs. & 6 months Surgery with subs.) as an Intern is offered after successful completion of 5 year program.. The entire program is monitored by the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) which is a licensing and regulatory authority for all medical colleges in Pakistan.
