Tackle |
Two rods again, an old Daiwa Moonraker with an Abu 6000c (30 years old) and an Abu Atlantic with a Abu 6000. Main reel line 15 lb with a 30 lb shock leader. Single 2/0 blue hook on a short 8 & 12 inch trace (two rods!).The trace was 3 feet above the gripper weights (4.5 oz and 6 oz). I was fishing with a mate this time, I had warned Riche that the fishing had been going down hill and not to expect too much. The sea is a fickle lover and will never fail to flash her skirts at any one new! I knew that most people give up and go home at or just after low tide. I kept telling Riche that we had to wait until tide down, the reason is simple - Fish like to eat, if you are swimming with the tide then anything you see is going at about the same speed, so you do not see any new food, or they see you first! If you swim against the tide, the food comes to you, also if you have to ambush your lunch then the poor victim will swim towards you and have to turn against the tide to get away. By the time it manages to turn, you have grabbed him, chomp chomp.... |
Species | |
Whiting
|
Little ones were turning up, infrequently, at all states of the tide, then one and a half hours after the tide has turned..... (photo) .... The best for some time (the reason the one at the bottom looks so weird is because I use the breakneck method of killing, unfortunately it leaves the fish a bit strange until riggers has finished) One is Riche's, one is mine. Lug with a mackerel tip - like Double Diamond, it works wonders (In the most un expected ways!!!!) |
Pouting
|
Both Riche and I had a little bait robber ..... Lug with a mackerel tip |
Rockling
|
What bait do you thing this was taken on ? Lug ? --- Beep, wrong ...... Mackerel. (Harvard law of biological sciences apples here!) |
Doggies
|
As the tide went down the whiting moved out leaving doggies to give us some fun - One apiece. Lug with a mackerel tip |
