Of all the amazing structures to be found in Egypt, perhaps the most astounding are the 3 pyramids of the Giza Necropolis. While they may not seem different from any other pyramid, on closer inspection they truly are astounding.
As you can see from the picture (right) that the 3 pyramids do not lay in a straight line with each other. In 1980, a Belgian construction engineer named Robert Bauval, saw that the three main belt stars of Orion that the pyramids lay beneath also were not in parallel. The third star Mintaka, lay slightly towards the east. After measuring, both the angle of the offset of Mintaka and the third pyramid were equal.
This was solid evidence that the builders of the pyramids were not only skilled architects and construction workers but mathematicians and astronomers. |
