Tally turns in "Red Dragon" script

Dino De Laurentiis and his wife/producing partner, Martha De Laurentiis, are readying for a possible September start "Red Dragon," the prequel to "Hannibal," with a script from Academy Award winning screenwriter Ted Tally ["The Silence of the Lambs"] that came in last week. Thomas Harris' 1981 best-selling crime-thriller novel "Red Dragon" was brought to the screen as "Manhunter" in 1986. MGM/Universal Pictures' "Hannibal" has earned more than $300 million in worldwide boxoffice returns. "Red Dragon" was the first of Harris' novels to introduce the character of Dr. Hannibal Lecter, the psychiatrist-turned-cannibal brought to life by Anthony Hopkins' Oscar-winning turn in "Silence of the Lambs." Hopkins reprised the role in "Hannibal" and has said he would be interested in the role again for "Red Dragon," depending on the script.
