Layang Layang

In 5/1999, we went to Layang Layang for our next diving holiday.

Layang Layang is an island situated about 300km from the coast of Borneo. It is again part of Malaysia. To get there, one must take a one and a half hour ride on a private propeller plane from Kota Kinabalu.

The island consists of a hotel resort, an airstrip and a military base on the the 14 square kilometers area.

It is here that we took up underwater photography for the first time. We were using a Sea & Sea Motor Marine II underwater camera and accessories.

Please forgive us about the quality of the photo, since it was our first attempt on underwater photography.

Again, this resort offers many dive points, all within a short distance from the resort on boat rides. Layang Layang is famous for large sea fans and hammerhead shark. Unfortunately we did not see any hammerhead shark. We did see Menta Ray twice, but they were too fast for taking any photos.

Here are some of the photos we took.

Apart from the underwater world, Layang Layang also offers bird watching on land.

And the resort is comfortable.

However, maybe we were unlucky, but the diving is definitely not half as beautiful as Sipadan.
