| The reptile room | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I see you have wandered into the room where I keep my pets... please do not be affraid and have a look around... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I keep several pet reptiles, some think that is strange, others think that is cool, yet others think it is absolutely crazy.... Sometimes people think i keep reptiles at pets because it is me that is strange, others think i keep them to make me look cool, yet others think it is me that is absolutely crazy.... But none of the above is true.... I just keep these pets because i like them... I think they look beautifull and well equipped for survival, although they are predatory by nature I assure you the pets I keep are in no way dangerous to my health (thank you for worrying). None of the animals is poisonous and none can grow large enough to hurt me in any serious way... and they will not hurt you either....please come closer and meet them... |

| I have three snakes of the species: "Elaphe guttatta guttatta", commonly known as: "red rat snake" or "Cornsnake". Of these three snakes one, the eldest (named "One") is male and the other two (named "Shea" and "Red") are not. Red has that name because the misses the black pigment in her skin and is therefore coloured bright-red... I have the two females in a different cage than the male snake because of the size difference, the two females are still much smaller. Shea and Red will be put in the same cage as One when they are large enough to stand up to him.... I hope they will one day get a twinkle in their eyes and make me a proud foster-parent to a lot of baby snakes.... See, the REPTILE NEWS (bottom of page) for an update!!! |

| I also have two lizards of the species: "Pogona vitticeps", commonly know as "bearded dragon" because of their ability to display a dark coloured beardlike pouch underneith their mouth. I have two of these...one is just a baby and the other one can be considered a juvenile.... The older one is called "Spiky", because of the skin texture of the bearded dragon and the baby is called "Fever" because of it's somewhat yellowish colour (Yellow Fever)... These lizards are fun to watch because this species is very active and displays very odd social behaviour.... For example: when they meet another bearded dragon they sometimes start waving their arm like a swimmer doing a butterfly stroke with only one arm, very funny to watch indeed... They also like to pile up on eachother, they climb and move around all the time... |

| But wait, there is more... I also have three Anoles (Anolis carolinensis) and two Longtailed Lizards (Takydromus sexlineatus) in one terrarium and four gecko's (Hemidactilus frenatus) in another... The Anoles can shift colour like a chameleon, but only from bright green to dark brown, and the males can display an impressive red pouch under their heads... The Longtailed lizard have a tail that measures up to 30 cm on a 6 cm body so it is obvious where they got their name from.... The gecko's don't show themselves all that much and they either scatter away or hold perfectly still when you get too close....they are quiet ferocious though when it comes to eating, so that spectacle makes it worth my while.... |

| !!! REPTILE NEWS !!! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Time has gone by since I first put a reptile room contribution up to introduce you to my reptile friends... And one of the female snakes Red: (the one missing the black pigment) has grown considerably... I put her with One, the large male, one day just to introduce them to each other to make the transition mor easy when i would finally decide to put them together permanently... But the twinkling in their eyes I mentioned earlier got there sooner then expected. You understand I was a bit schocked, but let nature take it's course. In the mean time Red is no longer just an inhabitant of my Nest of The Wanderer, but she has produced a nest of her own. Fifteen eggs, of wich I suspect twelve to be fertile and healthy enough to produce nice little crawlers. I have put the eggs in an incubator and hope for the best... I will keep you posted on the development. |
