Dr. Yekyll and mr. Hyde room
WARNING: The things this room contains are not fiction, this room is about actual people and actual events and a survival tool called Dissociative Identity Disorder, formally known as Multiple Personality Disorder, please treat the subject with the proper respect. I would advise people who are multiple themselves, or people who have suffered from any form of abuse whatsoever, to only read the contents of these pages (and the pages they link to) when feeling safe and comfortable, for the contents may be triggering. Always remember: you have chosen to read these pages and you can stop doing so whenever you want, maybe to continue when you are feeling better...
Welcome to my dr. Yekyll and mr Hyde room...
As many of us know dr. Yekyll was a fictive scientist obsessed with deviding the good and evil side within each and every one of us, to do this he created an elixer and as he drank it
mr. Hyde was born, the evil side of dr. Yekyll began to live a life of his own... eventually the dokter had to pay for his experiment with his life.

Though an amusing story and perhaps interesting to some psychologists debating the good and bad sides of a personality this story is purely fictive... And through no fault of the author this story is one that has contributed to the misunderstanding of Multiple Personality Disorder, like many other myths about possession and so forth...

I hope, however, that the information in this room will contribute to the understanding and appriciation of the MPS, or rather Dissociative Identity Disorder.
Now that you understand the true meaning of this room a bit better, even if you do not yet fully understand what it is really all about I would like to welcome you to this very special room. I call this room very special because it is dedicated to very brave people who have survived child abuse and in the process of surviving have had to devide the pain and become many instead of one, just to bear the unbearable...
Dissociative Identity Disorder, an introduction...
To have Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), formally known as Multiple Personality Disorder means that you have, inside your body more than one personality/ identity/alternate state ("alter"), each of which can be in control of the body and the actions of the person involved at any given time.
DID is usually developped in childhood as a defence mechanism against severe sexual, physical and emotional abuse perpetrated by people to whom the child is bound in a situation from which it has no means to escape. The child experiencing this can sometimes flee into it's own mind and "detach" itself from the pain and fear, this fleeing into ones mind is called dissociation. Children that have to (and can) dissociate frequently could develop DID.

Therefore I think DID itself should not be considered a bad thing, but the development of other personalities should be vieuwed at as a creative solution to ease the child's suffering when it becomes to much for one to bear...
Please do explore this room, take a look at my psychology bookshelf and investigate the wonder of dissociation a little further. You will find information on these subjects:
