Fait Accompli

"…and you'll be famous and live a very long, adventurous life…"

The brunette man curiously gazed at the palm of his hand.

"And you can see all this in my hand?"

His big blue eyes grew even bigger when he slowly looked up at the small black-haired girl.

"You know, my father would probably kill me, if he knew I was here…"

His voice trailed off as his gaze anxiously wandered towards the Campbell's huge family residence.

"I know what you mean." The girl laughed. "Mine would probably do the same."

They looked at one another for a few quiet seconds then simultaneously burst into a silly fit of laughter.

"My name is William Nicholas Campbell."

The young man finally gasped, drawing in big gulps of air.

"William Nicholas Campbell, how fitting."

The girl's black eyes beamed at him when she turned her hand so she was able to shake hands with him in a proper manner.

"My name is Sonia," she then introduced herself with a smile. "Daughter of Matteo, the fire eater."

William happily returned her smile.

"Pleased to meet you, Sonia, daughter of Matteo."

He tilted his head and bowed slightly in her direction.

She giggled at such formal behavior and playfully tugged at their still entwined hands.

"Would you allow me to show you your future?" She all of a sudden suggested. "I mean, really show you - not just reading your hand…?"

His eyes once again grew big as saucers.

"Would you be able to do that?"

"So you're not afraid?"

A genuine smile curled up the corners of her lips.

"You must be a truly good man then, because my grandmother used to say that only those true at heart would allow us to show them their future, because they'd have nothing to fear."

"Okay, what do I have to do?"

William eagerly met the girl's unwavering look.

He all but bounced.

He'd get to see his future.

His future!

Would he be married?

Would he have children?

Would he have become a recognized author?

He was so excited that he felt like laughing and dancing and singing at the same time.

"You don't have to do anything, William."

Sonia told him in a sincere voice.

"Just sit down and keep your eyes shut and I'll do the rest."

The brunette boy immediately complied.

His mind was racing and every single nerve in his body on edge - tense in anticipation.

He felt gentle warm fingers touching his temples.

He would get to see his future life…

His bride…

His children…

His…

His…

His eyes fluttered.

Where was Sonia?

Where was the village?

His knees buckled.

Something definitely wasn't quite right.

"…how many times do I have to tell you; don't fuck with my slaying!!!"

"…and how many times do I have to tell you to shove it up your ass!!!"

William pulled a face at the fighting couple.

He absolutely hated loud voices.

And such disgraceful behavior…

He looked around.

It was night and he didn't have a clue where he was.

All he could say was; this definitely wasn't Worcestershire anymore.

And all the funny vehicles and buildings.

Some of them, like the one the strange couple was standing in front of, had huge windows with whole families sitting in them, overlooking the nightly streets.

Funny though none of them moved or as much as glanced at the scandalous display of temper.

He sighed, unsure whether or not to approach the two.

But since they were the only people in the streets he finally made a tentative step.

They were facing away from him and kept yelling at one another in the most inappropriate way.

He was just about to tap the young man on the shoulder, when the girl all of a sudden fell silent mid-sentence and frantically gestured towards the big window.

"Spike…"

Her voice was almost inaudible now.

And despite her previous demonstration of anger her tiny hand now reached for her companion.

"…you may wanna look at this!"

The white-haired man immediately turned to face the girl, however, she only gestured him to turn around again.

Curious because of her urgency, William took a look the window himself.

+Oh dear!+

He immediately knew why she was all that upset.

Despite the fact that there were three people standing in front of the window there were only two reflections - William himself and the reflection of the fair-haired girl.

+Vampire!+

Everything screamed inside of him.

He wanted to warn the girl.

Wanted to tell her to run.

However…

He couldn't!

Frozen in fear, he barely managed to breathe.

He had heard about such creature - demons behind a human façade.

Thunderstruck he watched the white-haired monster ever so slowly turn around.

They both blinked - once, twice…

Then the beast turned and looked at his baffled companion, turned again and looked at William again, turned again and looked at the girl…

Finally the brute did something quite unexpected, his already ghostly complexion turned even whiter, his knees gave in and his eyes rolled back in his head.

Then he was gone - out in a death-faint.

"Sonia?" William called out tentatively.

If this was his future he didn't wish to see any more.

The petite blonde girl gave him a questioning look.

"My name is Buffy, not Sonia," she eventually said. "Would you help me to get him home? I mean, the sun's gonna be up in a couple of minutes and he… he…, well, he's got sorta super sensitive skin…?"

She was testing him.

So she knew what the guy was.

But why had she reacted like that when it wasn't the lack of reflection that had freaked her out.

He stepped a little closer, hesitantly.

"He's a vampire!"

William finally blurted out without thinking.

"I know that," the girl grinned. "But he's also my husband and as much as I hate to admit it, I actually am rather fond of him."

With this she reached around the offed figure and pulled him into an upright position.

Gesturing William to do the same she draped one of his arms around her shoulders and steadied him then by threading one of her own arms around his waist.

"Well?"

It wasn't a question.

And although he felt more than a little awkward, William did as requested.

"Ahrg…"

Seated comfortably on a soft padded arm chair, balancing a cup of sweet hot chocolate on his knee, William curiously watched the blonde woman packing an ice pack on the creature, she's claimed to be wedded to, 's forehead.

He was stirring, but hadn't regained consciousness.

"Slayer? Buffy?"

William watched the vampire rise on arm to shield his eyes from the simulated daylight coming from a mushroom-shaped something sitting on the coffee table.

"…I just had the weirdest of dreams…"

The vampire's gaze lazily traveled the room, briefly lingered on William and continued towards the kitchen only to zoom back at William the very next second.

"Buffy, come here!"

He could hear the soft 'ding' followed by the opening and closing of what he assumed to be a cupboard.

"Here, have a snack!"

The blonde girl gracefully entered the living-room and swiftly replaced the ice-pack on her husband's forehead with a fat preheated blood bag.

"Tell me, luv…"

The vampire easily captured her hand and pulled her down to sit next to him on the sofa.

"If you look at that arm chair," he vaguely gestured towards William. "D-d-do you see, well, do you see anything unusual?"

He gave her a few seconds to study the object.

"Eh, no!"

The girl quickly winked at her husband's mortal counterpart.

"Do you see anything unusual over there?"

Her voice picked up a worried note and for some reason William knew exactly what she was up to and had to fight hard to maintain a straight face.

"Eh, no…Nothing unusual… Just kidding…"

Buffy and William burst into laughter.

"Sorry, sweet heart, that was mean."

The love for her vampire husband clearly radiated from her eyes when she tenderly reached up to tussle his hair.

"I've got no idea where he came from, or how he got here - but yes, I can see him right over there."
