Blue
Dress
Depeche Mode
Put it on
And don't say a word
Put it on
The one that I prefer
Put it on
And stand before my eyes
Put it on
Please don't question why
Can you believe
Something so simple
Something so trivial
Makes me a happy man
Can't you understand
Say you believe
Just how easy
It is to please me
Because when you learn
You'll know what makes the world turn
Put it on
I can feel so much
Put it on
I don't need to touch
Put it on
Here before my eyes
Put it on
Because you realise
And you believe
Something so worthless
Serves a purpose
It makes me a happy man
Can't you understand
Say you believe
Just how easy
It is to please me
Because when you learn
You'll know what makes the world turn

First off, you're prob
wondering what's up with the Depeche Mode lyrics.
Well, it may be about a Blue Dress but I think
this song displays perfectly how I feel about
winamp skins so the lyrics get to be on this
page. Good band, good song, go listen to it. |
A winamp skin is a graphic
or pattern that you can put on your winamp player
to make it pretty. ^_^ I know this is a very
simple explanation but there's really no better
way to put it. Most skins change the fire and or
the oscilloscope color. Some skins may have
edited out buttons if it affects the picture or
pattern, but those functions that were edited out
should still work in the same place where they were on the default.

How
do I use the skins I download? |
On your winamp player
options there's a Skin Browser option. Select it
and then go to Set Skins Directory... button at
the bottom of your browser. Find the folder you
saved the skins in and set it as the directory.
The names of the skins you downloaded should come
up. Double click on the one you want and you have
a nice spiffy looking background for your winamp
player! |
How
do I make my own winamp skins? |
Three words, practice,
practice and more practice. You can make a skin
with a something as simple as MS Paint (I started
out that way) but it really helps if you have
PhotoShop or Paint Shop Pro and have a good grasp
on how to use them. You can do it the hard way
and unzip someone else's skin to use the format
of the bitmaps from; or you can get a skinner
program. I don't use one anymore except to color
the fire but the one I do use is, Skinner (211 kb). It's a good
program to start off making skins on. There's a
bunch of different Templates that you can use,
but you have to manually go in and put them in
the Templates Folder once you unzip the skinner
program. The one thing about Skinner is that it
won't let you save the EQ or PL unless you're
registered. Since I now do my skins by hand I
haven't looked around much lately, but there may
be better skinner programs out there now. I'd
suggest you look around some if your going to use
a skinner program. Word of advice: Good pictures
make good skins. No matter how complex or simple
your skin is a good picture will make a good
skin.

Winamp players can be found
at www.winamp.com Many other
spiffy winamp skins, plugins and good advice that
can be found on the official Winamp site. There's
an endless supply of winamp skins out there if
you get to looking. I'm certainly not the best
skin maker out there, but I enjoy making my skins
and hope that you can enjoy them as much as I do. |
