You decide to pay a visit to Aerkum. His arrow directs you to a slightly worn path, winding through the trees. You follow it, listening to birds twitter.
Soon, you begin to hear another voice, and the strumming of some kind of instrument. Rounding a corner, you see the source of the noise.
A vibrant red gryphon rests on a fallen log, its head rested on one taloned foreleg. Its legs straddle the log, and one hangs over the edge closest to you. It presses the strings on the neck of an old, battered guitar, and it strums with its tail while it sings. You catch the very end of its song.
Many seasons I have lived
content to simply roam
but now I know with certainty
this is my home.
The gryphon plays one final cord, and looks up at you. "Hi!" he says cheerfully, leaping off on his log and walking gracefully over to you. "I'm Aerkum. What brings you here?"
"I'm exploring the Forest Realm," you inform the red gryphon. "That song was beautiful!"
"Thanks," he says, shrugging. "It's a work in progress. I'll sing it for Ferocitas as soon as it's done. She'll love it, that's for sure." Grinning goofily, Aerkum waves his tail. Ferocitas must be his mate, you realize.
"Well...what's life like here for you?" you ask Aerkum.
"Wonderful!" he exclaims, smiling. "I can sing all day and not worry about a thing. The food is plentiful, the nights are cool...I'm happier here than I ever was. You see, I come from the mountains of Trialle. Dangerous place -- Chirolupes always about. But Amaryllis found me in the Cougar Pass maze. I was exploring there and, when she offered to take me back to Dracogrex with her and give me a home, I couldn't turn her down! So, I've been here ever since."
"That's great!" you say, smiling back. "Well, it was very nice to meet you, Aerkum. Good luck with your song!"
"Thanks," Aerkum replies. Waving his tail, he trots back to his log, hops up, and begins strumming on his guitar again. As you return to the signpost, his singing follows you, serenading you along the forest path.
