You decide that you'd like to meet Shadi. His path looks relatively long, so you jog, hoping to get to your destination quicker. However, you soon slow to a walk. The path is even longer than you thought.
Fifteen minutes later, you are still walking. You're gasping for breath, and you sit down. You look behind you to see how far you've come...and the signpost is still several yards away!
You shout in surprise, whirling around and wondering what's going on. Surely you'd gotten farther than that!
Suddenly, you hear an icy, grating laugh. Tensing, you whirl around to face a white cat.
A perpetual sneer is planted on the feline's face, and the furry tail waves in amusement as the cat eyes you. "Grrrreetings," it says, voice thick with accent that reminds you of a purr. "My name is Shadi. What brings you to my path?"
"I'm exploring Dracogrex," you say shortly, still slightly agitated about the impossible path you tried to walk. "What's up with this path?! I didn't get anywhere --"
Shadi laughs again, sending a chill up your spine. "Oh, you wouldn't get much farther unless I wanted you to. Then, you'd probably go a lot quicker." Purring, Shadi stretches his back and flexes his clawed paws. "So, what is it that you want to know?"
"Um..." you begin, but Shadi stops you with a brief flick of his ear.
"I'll just give the generic speech," the cat says, scratching himself with his back paw. "Well, Amaryllis found me while I was roaming the halls of Silvanon. I owned nothing but the tag around my neck that stated I was adoptable. I was certainly not starving there, but I was...lonely. You know, even a feline needs company, eh? So," he finishes, "she brought me here, where I could wreak all the havoc on travelers that I wanted." Yawning, Shadi rises. "I'm tired, run along now."
The last thing you hear of the cat is one last bone-chilling laugh, and then Shadi is gone. You turn back to the signpost...and it's not there. Instead, a long path stretches out before you, with a sign saying "Signpost: 1/2 mile." Groaning, you begin the long walk back to the signpost, all because of one tricky feline.
