You decide that you'd like to meet Korak. His path leads to your right, so you turn that way and follow it. It seems quite new, or else not many creatures had walked it. This makes you slightly nervous, but you shrug it off on the basis that the Sky Realm is, indeed, a friendly place that poses no threat to you.
You keep walking, admiring the pretty, puffy clouds (:D CLOUDS!) until you come to a platform. It is built in an arc like a skating ramp, and it is made of smooth, pure obsidian. You run your hand along the edge of it, but something shifts far above you, and you jump. There seems to be a dark place among the clouds, and all you can see in it are two red eyes, regarding you with serene malice.
Your heart pounds in your chest. Perhaps you should turn around. What was Amaryllis thinking when she said that the Sky Realm had no dangers? You're left little time to think about her, however, for a shape glides down from the dark place and lands before you, making you make a little 'eep' noise.
The gryphon is a hunk of pure muscle and ferocity, with rippling chest muscles and broad, powerful wings. The very gaze of the creature is enough to send chills up and down your spine. You back up a few paces, but you're very surprised when the gryphon lets out a snort of laughter.
"Where are you going so fast?" it asks, cocking its feathery head to better examine you. "I'm not going to hurt you or anything. Actually, it will be quite painless!" At your expression, the gryphon lets out another burst of helpless laughter. "I'm just kidding. Come on, I was joking!" the gryphon says, grinning like a child. "Well...what are you doing here?"
You stammer out a reply. "I-I'm exploring D-dracogrex," you say. "W-who are you?"
"Korak," the gryphon replies flatly, sitting down on his hind legs. "So...well, um, why...why are you here...?" Obviously, he can't think of much to say, so he just shifts his wings lazily and begins to pick at one long, dark claw.
"So you're not going to kill me?" you ask abruptly, still regarding the gryphon with a gaze of grave mistrust.
The gryphon looks up. "Dur," he replies, as though the fact that he is harmless is the most obvious thing in the world. "The last thing I killed was, well, this morning. Kidding!" he assures you, giggling to himself at his brand of 'humor.'
"Er...stop," you say quickly, getting incredibly annoyed by Korak's taunts. "How did you get here?"
Korak grins impishly. You're sure he's already thought up a million things to say to reply to that, but he refrains, and tells his story. "Amaryllis was exploring the forests of a planet she visited," he explained, "because she had heard that there were many endangered creatures there. She found me when I was just a little chick, for my parents had died from an illness that affected most of my breed. I was spared, so she brought me with her back to Dracogrex and gave me a good home here."
"Wow," you say earnestly. "That was really great of her!"
Korak nods expressively. "I don't plan on eating her anytime soon," he says, grinning. "Sorry, sorry!" he adds at your expression of annoyance.
"Perhaps I should go," you say dryly, "before you make any more comments."
Korak cackles. "Perhaps you should," he agrees, "before I get any hungrier than I am right now. Haha!" he laughs, but you don't hear him, for you're already on your way back to the signpost to keep exploring.
