Motoro Stingrays | Poka Doted Stingrays | |||||||||||||
Freshwater Stingrays are unique in the tropical fish hobby for the following reasons: They are not as well understood as other fish. They can be much more expensive than almost any other group of tropical fish. They are often difficult to obtains. And the seclecion of species is often limited. There are many different types of rays. most of them are found in the South America area. Their name also vary, and not everyone uses the same name for example: Black Rays also know as Pokadot Rays or Motoro Rays aslo know as yellow dots rays...and so on. There are many kind of rays some of their species are still not identify. Most of the freshwater stingrays that aquarist like to keep are Black rays, Tiger Rays, Motoro Rays, Tea Cups Rays... because their beauty also their size are relative small come pare to other species. Keeping Rays is require Extremly Clean water with hightly oxigen dissolve levels. water temperatures should be in the range of 75-80*F (24-27*C) and pH between 6-6.75. Because most of the rays can grow greater than 18 inches in diameter when adult not inclued the tails. Therefor tingrays requires more room to move around be in the aquarium. Keeping stingrays is offent need big aquarium with large surface area the biger the better. The hight of the aquarium is not importance than the wide and the lenght of the aquarium. If possipobe you can have special tank design for rays. A good quality filtration system also a good ideal also play an importan factor to help successful keeping rays. Deseases: a healthy rays should very active moving around and looking for food and the under dishes should have a milky white color. Rays is always buried itself under the sands for a long period and have red mark or pinkist to red color under their dishes are not a good sign to look for when chosing rays. As mention above Stingrays are not as well understood as other fish. Unexplane deth of rays are not rare to found in keeping rays aquarist. Often, the first sign of a health problen in rays is refusal of food, weight loss, rapid breathing, and decrease in general activity. One of the famoust fatal cause death of rays are call "The Dead Curl" A healthy ray always keeps the disc margin flat to the surface except when actively moving about the tank. A rays that holds the edges of the fin elevated or curled upward slightly while at rest will almost inevitably die. The cause of this is not known, but it is an extrem reliable sign. Beeding Stingrays, like other elasmobranchs, reproduce by internal fertilizations. Male rays have claspers, which are modified pelvic fins, located on each side of the tail. Claspers are ulilized to transfer sperm to the cloaca of the female during copulation. Claspers are present at birth; thus, sex readily can be deternimed even in very small or newborn seciments. Until rays are matur, the claspers are small and may be defficult to see without examining the ventral surface of a young specimen. This is most easily done when the ray is swimming against the side of the aquarium. Although some aquarist in US, Europe, and Asia have achieved success with cative breeding Rays (Motoro ans Pokadot species) most captive breeding to date have been chance breedings, and the specific hsbandry requirements for breeding stingrays have not yet been identified. A few aquarists have been successful in breeding stingrays though several generarions. Precautions Stingrays are venomous animals. Although their venom has not been fully evaluated, experiende seems to indicate that it is Extreamly painful, but probably not fatal. Regarless of wether or not stingray enoms are potntially fatal, the spine, or barb, is capable of inficing a dengerous wound that can become imbedded in the tissue; therefore, you must exercise extreme caution whenever you work with these fish. |
