Food: Piranhas can eat anything meatly. they also consume those that are dead. they will eat worms at most kind , as well as other invertebrates. Pieces of meat , poultry, and fish will be greedily taken, event a dead day-old chicks or a mice can also be fed to piranhas. However, like many fishes, piranhas can endure quile long periods (whole dry season) without feeding. Piranhas has great sense fo smell it can detect blood hundreds feet away. its also has the abilty to detect anything distrubandces in the water (the censor along the lateral line can detect and amplified the slightest vibrations in the water hundreds feet away).
Breeding: Piranhas natterreri are egglayers fish. However its need a large tank at least 100-300 gallons capacity to breed. They also known as nest-builders fish. When a pair are form, they usuallly swim together and the male will start to display a darkening of his colors in a very short time span. The pair will commence nest preparations by biting away piecies of vegetation, moving rocks, and fashion a deression at a chosen site. The male then will drive the female around the tank in an effort to guide her to the nesting area. He may take pieces from her in these fishes in conducted at much the dame level of violence as most other aspects of their lives! Eventually, she will come to rest in the spawing area and he will approach her from the side in order to fertilize as many of her eggs as he can. This ritual will be repeated a number of times until all the eggs are shed. The number of eggs range between 700-4000 depent of it parents size. The eggs will hatch after 2-9 days depending on the species and water temperatues. The fry will soon begin feeding on newly hatched brine shimp. then small worms and if food are not given enough. they will attack and eat each other. baby piranhas grow very fast about 1 in (2.5cm) for a first few months. When spawning has taken place. the pair can spaw again within 2-3 weeks.
Housing: Piranhas need a large tank (at least 100gallons) and keep in school with their owns species. piranhas is a hardly fish it can adapt to most environment but it very sensitive to chemical add in to tanks. Like most tropical fish piranhas live in soft water lightly acidic pH 5.5-6.5 and temp between 28-30 C. because it illegal statust. the price of the baby is between 15-30 dollars and adult is about 50 dollars each.
Disease: Piranhas are harlly fish, they are rarely get desease, they had amazing torrleran to polluted water
I have keeping piranhas for more than 4 years I never has aproblem that my fish got sick event I did't change water fro 2-3 months.The only problem are the fish always got injury by killing each other if you let them hugry (Piranhas will kill each other for food). Piranhas also has amazing healing surviving abilities. I have seen one of my fish lost about 1/4 of it total body part. but it still live and health ferfectly within a week.
A nother thing that you need to know about this fish is a strick to play dead. Piranhas can play dead for long hours sometimes 2-3 days. The fish just lay side way or upside down at the bottome at the tank mosionless Specially when the fish was introduce to new environment or some thing really scare them .
