Species name: Capsicum frutescens. Color: Green maturing to red. Shape: Curved, elongated pod tapering to a point. Description: Thin-fleshed very hot pepper with a harsh, woodsy flavor. Scoville Heat Units: 15,000-30,000 Related Cultivars: Thai. Most Commonly Grown In: China, Japan. This fiery pepper is commonly found in Sechuan stir-fry and Japanese dishes. Some hot sauces also feature this pepper. There is some confusion about the name, as the same name is used of dried Serranos, which however is a Capsium annuum. |
