In the game my first advice is make sure your team has diffrent types of pokemon on it, none of the exacts same type.
Second,start with either bulbasaur of squirtel,dont pick charmander,he dosnt have and atvantages untill you fight erica,by then you should have a growlith or vulpix on your team by then.

sixth leader, koga: recommended type to fight with " psychic or ground"
seventh leader, blaine: recommomended type to fight with " water
or rock"

Agatha:type of monster,gost and posion,recommended type of monster to fight with,"psychic and electric".despite what nintendo says psychic type will beat ghost pokemon because of their posion chartaristics
lance: type of monster, dragon and waterand flying/rock, recommended type to fight with "ice and electric".against his gyrados, an electric pokemon will drop it in a heart beat.
