This is a great recipe for holidays or for the theater. You will need: one package of an un-flavored, unsweetened gelatin (Kern's is great for this), warm to hot water, food coloring, and stage makeup.
One ¼ oz of gelatin is set into a ¼ cup of warm to hot water. Warm water will give texture. Make sure the gelatin is warm, not hot, when it is being applied to the skin. Add red and blue food coloring to taste. The more red the color, the fresher the wound will look. Apply this with a tongue depressor or other spatula while it is still warm and liquid. Don't worry about dripping, place the cup underneath to catch the spill, but keep the application generous.
While the gelatin is still rather fresh, you can add a little sand to add to the idea of this being a wound. You may touch this up when it is cool with some yellow (infected) or black (crusted) stage makeup. A little makeup to add "bruising" to the edges of this wound would add to the effect.
Best part, if you remove this carefully, this wound can be used several times. Just refrigerate between uses, and add a fresh coat of gelatin or mascara glue.
Have fun!
